I keep it installed in case anything needs it.

But for a 200 year old program, it is constantly demanding to be updated.

And every time, it has an interface that tries to install more junk with other things to install listed with checkmarks to install them on another part of the screen I have to notice each time and uncheck, and every time it defaults to a setting of 'automatically install updates' and I have to notice and change it to manual updates.

While you're at it do you want to download McAfee?

ARE YOU SURE YOU DON'T ALSO WANT TO DOWNLOAD MCCAFFE WITH YOUR UPDATE.

Fucking hate Adobe in general. Seems to freeze my work computer for five minutes the first time I print something in the day. So weird and obnoxious. Plus it takes forever to scroll through a document since it can't seem to load the damn pages in advance. Argh.

I remember when the iPhone first came out and everyone was all upset that it didn't have Flash support. In hindsight, that was possibly the best thing that happened to the internet. It finally forced web developers to start designing their sites without it.

I took it off my main Windows computer a while back and I honestly don't miss it. While Chrome has it built in, it's pretty muck kept quarantined from the rest of the system. Even then, I still use Flash Block and only allow it to load on whitelisted sites. There's no reason to actually have it installed on the OS level. Even with Firefox and IE, I don't often come across sites that require it.

+1 million and probably single handedly made the iOS more secure.

I keep trying to do without. Only lasts for a month or so then I run across a site that can't function without it.

When I run into a site that demands Flash, like ESPN, I just switch my browsers user agent to iPad and videos play just fine. I should probably just remove it.

I hate flash, it really needs to die, and people need to stop coding with it. PDFs are a good concept, but it needs to be open source, and less bloated. There is absolutely no reason why a program made to view a certain type of file that is just a glorified image needs so many freaking updates.

I use it; mainly only for Youtube though. It's much safer than html5 since there's no equivalent functionality for click-to-play for html5 videos. The funny thing is the idiots at Mozilla gimped click-to-play plugins in FF 38; and even the plugins to restore the old functionality don't seem to work now. Still mostly using FF 17.

It's only a matter of time before websites start pushing autoplay html5 video ads.

LOL, yea, I keep asking myself how this needs to be updated 5-6 times a month and as usual you have to be sure to untick the "free trial" of McAfee.

That's why you use the flash debug player.

Also Apple blocked Flash more to push native apps than helping the web. Which is good for their users obviously, esp in the early times when the chips were really slow.

It's amazing that a major player like Adobe could bloat something so simple that is basically a glorified text viewer into a POS that is capable of causing a modern dual or quad-core machine running @3.6Ghz into a pile of goo. Takes special talent to bloat like that!.

Yeah honestly I think it was a good move by Apple. I made fun of it at first but really, I think Apple knew what they were doing. As a side effect it forced more people to code without flash.

Java is another annoying thing. All that shit needs to be part of the web standard and coded with said standard. I don't know if html5 is the answer to everything though. For example IPMI for supermicro servers uses Java, so it does not work in Linux (probably some complicated way to make it work) so have to use a VM, but evne in Windows you need to install a plugin. If they had something part of a web standard then it could work without needing any kind of plugin. These plugin things are also a vehicle for viruses and spyware to enter via drive by attack. Then again something part of a web standard could be exploited too, but if it's done right it could be made secure. To me, browsers should all be sandboxed anyway, not sure why this is not a standard. One of these days I want to see what it would take to do in Linux, as you can probably run it from a chroot jail or something. I guess the trick with a true sandbox like that is when you download something you can't just put it on your desktop but it would go in a chrooted zone, but not a huge deal, you just make a shortcut from your desktop to that folder or something.

Had to enable Silverlight on the boss's machine a couple days ago. I had disabled it because it's an attack vector, and who hell uses Silverlight anyway? I'll tell you who; the fuckin' government. They'd fuck up a wet dream. Using proprietary software for citizen use should be illegal, and it should be grounds for firing using it for government internal use.

the last upgrade was also bugged I think because memory use went up a lot.

It happened once already before.

Anyway I still use flash for videos (many websites still use it) and sometimes games (on newgrounds).

I also want Java and their Ask bs to die in a fire, Ask is actual malware since it maliciously reinstalls its toolbars and home page you don't do a proper removal.

I removed Flash off my laptop months back. Got tired of updating it, and having Firefox nag me that my PC didn't have the latest version. Once or twice a week I cannot watch a video on a website I infrequently visit. Don't miss it at all.
