Flash sucks but you know what's fucked? HTML5 on Youtube is even worse. I'd been noticing that Youtube was just being a total dog, used CPU, didn't buffer for shit, would wig out half the time when skipping around the video. Did some searching and others were having similar problems and forcing it to use Flash actually improved it. It worked for me, it now buffers fine, uses less resources, and handles skipping around a lot better.
I don't know what Google/Youtube did that made HTML5 be so shitty on there. It used to be better than Flash but now it sucks.
I'd think it was just Firefox but Youtube seems just as bad when I use it on Chrome.
Firefox in general has been super slugish lately, I had to switch to Chromium and it made everything including Youtube faster. Interestingly it seems Youtube is using HTML5 now, in Firefox it was always using flash.
Firefox just did an update that blocks Flash by default.
I use Silverlight several times a week... unfortunately. It's required for Firefox in Windows 7 and some versions of Mac OS X for Netflix.Had to enable Silverlight on the boss's machine a couple days ago. I had disabled it because it's an attack vector, and who hell uses Silverlight anyway? I'll tell you who; the fuckin' government. They'd fuck up a wet dream. Using proprietary software for citizen use should be illegal, and it should be grounds for firing using it for government internal use.
FTFY :whiste:If you're using flash, uninstall it!
There are several recent zero-day exploits out there.

+1 million and probably single handedly made the iOS more secure.
Yes, Java is pretty bad. Its inclusion of a whitelist feature though in 7u51 made it hugely more secure (but boy was it a pain to maintain for domains!). It's still the worst "auto" updater in history and cumbersome. These are both third party runtimes that the world would be better off without. Is it just me, or has Java gotten just as bad as Flash lately? It constantly needs security updates, tries to install bloatware when patches, and has increased the Java security settings to the point where it's almost impossible to run a Java applet in a browser.

You still watch it from a browser? There are so...many...devices that can do it on your TV.
Our mother watches Amazon Prime Instant from a browser because the sound on her iMac is better than her TV, it's almost as large as her TV, and it's much closer than her TV. Just like Netflix, Amazon Prime Instant uses Silverlight on OSX.

Have they patched those 0-days yet? I thought they were still unpatched and that's why FireFox was blocking all Flash content.

Silverlight is no longer needed for netflix. They have moved to HTML5 video...Just Chrome browser and nothing else.I use Silverlight several times a week... unfortunately. It's required for Firefox in Windows 7 and some versions of Mac OS X for Netflix.

If you are using Windows, you might want to look into Unchecky, it helps prevent shovelware from getting installed. http://unchecky.com/

Flash and JAVA both make my career a complete nightmare
