It is annoying, much like Java. Hate all the "offers" every time you update. At least you can disable it in Java updates if you really dig but the average joe won't ever do that.

Even better is how all the malware fuckwads make these fake "Flash" update ads with a slightly off Adobe logo and n00bz click it and the hellstorm begins.

That said, it is great for the PC repair biz

I removed Flash off my laptop months back. Got tired of updating it, and having Firefox nag me that my PC didn't have the latest version. Once or twice a week I cannot watch a video on a website I infrequently visit. Don't miss it at all.

I wonder: If you spoof the user agent string of an Apple iPad, can you view the video? :hmm:

Adobe products need to update constantly since they are highly riddled with vulnerabilities.

Not sure what is worse its constant security bugs or Firefox always disabling it if it is not latest. I've ditched it too... but my parents watch some site that has no HTML5 player

I kinda know this, but at the same time I'm incredulous - they have a new vulnerability every week or so?

Probably, but I don't think it's really been done. Silverlight's deprecated. MS is only doing bug/security fixes.
Huh, is Netflix switching to something else, then? Something more Linux friendly, I would hope?

I haven't heard anything. They will /eventually/, but probably not for a couple years at least. Anything they do is sure to be unfriendly to everyone. That's the nature of drm. If I had to put money on something, I'd guess Adobe and EME.

There is a Firefox plug that will open a page in Chrome, it might be the easier way to go.

I'm glad Silverlight never really got popular, it was a stupid idea. It's yet another plugin that adds a requirement to certain web pages and yet another vehicle for exploits.

Its faster, more secure, and doesnt need constant updating.
Thats not stupid at all.

And every time, it has an interface that tries to install more junk with other things to install listed with checkmarks to install them on another part of the screen I have to notice each time and uncheck, and every time it defaults to a setting of 'automatically install updates' and I have to notice and change it to manual updates.

Feels like reading my own comment. But US people get McAfee 'offer'? I'm from Europe and Flash tries to push Google Chrome and toolbar on me.

Also, I hate how Flash messes up Windows Firewall. You can add an exception for the Flash Updater, but this updater downloads another exe that will do the actual update.

If you are using Windows, you might want to look into Unchecky, it helps prevent shovelware from getting installed. http://unchecky.com/

Interesting.

I recently used Ninite after formatting and installing Windows clean, after neglecting to do that for years.

Installed all the main freeway applications that I use or ever intend to use, even if only once a year (if that), and what's nice is it automatically skips offers and other crap. Turns out, it even automatically set Java to never show offers again - just checked the Java control panel and saw that configured appropriately.

I hate flash, it really needs to die, and people need to stop coding with it. PDFs are a good concept, but it needs to be open source, and less bloated. There is absolutely no reason why a program made to view a certain type of file that is just a glorified image needs so many freaking updates.

PDF is an open format now. And there are a variety of software packages to read PDFs.

Adobe needs to update.

While you're at it do you want to download McAfee?

You probably should download McAfee.

ARE YOU SURE YOU DON'T ALSO WANT TO DOWNLOAD MCCAFFE WITH YOUR UPDATE.

see you again next week.

Flash sucks but you know what's fucked? HTML5 on Youtube is even worse. I'd been noticing that Youtube was just being a total dog, used CPU, didn't buffer for shit, would wig out half the time when skipping around the video. Did some searching and others were having similar problems and forcing it to use Flash actually improved it. It worked for me, it now buffers fine, uses less resources, and handles skipping around a lot better.

I don't know what Google/Youtube did that made HTML5 be so shitty on there. It used to be better than Flash but now it sucks.

I'd think it was just Firefox but Youtube seems just as bad when I use it on Chrome.
