I bought a camera from Best Buy a few days ago. When I got home, I opened the box, only to find that the
lense was missing from the box. The wraping was there, but no lense. Upon further expection, I realized that the box didn't have a plastic wrapper when I purchased it, and that everything in the box had been opened already, even the batteries. Well, I go to the store where I bought the crap camera from, and they refuse to give me a lense or a new camera or a refund. I explained to them that the box and everything inside was opened, and all they said was that they weren't liable for anything, and that I was lying and that the box was sealed, even though there was a sticker placed on the box that reveiled it had been open before. I called there coporate office, and to my surprise, they were just as unwilling to help me out with the matter. It took me five calls and two hours of my time to finally get them to agree to give me a lense. When I went again, all the employees were rude to me and the manager complete ignored me. I had a terrible experienced with this store, and I will never buy anything from there again, I advice everyone to take their business elsewhere..... "

So to all the people that think the guy is pulling a scam.

i thought it already was and stores doing this are shady asses.

I used to work at Best Buy's tech bench, long before they bought out the Geek Squad. It was standard procedure for us to plug in the CPU and make sure it powered on. It also gave us the opportunity to sell services and other crap.

However, some customers bypassed this step, so I guess it could happen.

Definately not. This guy is trying to scam Best Buy...

I dont't know.

I baught a NEW video card from them years ago. inside was a 28.8 MODEM. I didnt notice any tampering with the box at all.

that was the last time i baught anything other then a game or cd at best buy.

Best Buy reseals packages in the store, as in they retape, then shrinkwrap them to look brand new. It's incredibly hard to tell that it's been done, unless there was some damage to the box.

This happens more than you'd think, but it's usually caught. At one of the local Radioshacks, someone returned a powered subwoofer, but the employee was too busy to check, and just threw it out back. A few days later someone wanted to buy one, so they dragged out the box, only to find it had a cinderblock in it instead of a subwoofer.

I had a few firends that used pull this type crap when they work for best buy. They Stole things out of the boxes and put stuff in it so it would sell.

So that is how it happens. I was thinking there is no way someone could return two wooden blocks in a box to the return center and get away with it.

that's what I'm thinking

Sorry.... we used to refer to the computer itself as the CPU since to your average BB customer, the "computer" is the computer, kb, mouse, monitor, speakers, etc. Some of them used to refer to the computer as the "modem."

Shrink wrap machines are cheap, and a lot of dishonest people will make a habit of buying expensive product A, taking it home, and swapping in cheap product B, shrinkwrapping it, and returning it "unopened". Since it appears unopened, not everyone bothers to check contents. Then in some cases contents are similar enough that many people wouldn't notice the difference. (ie. two similar looking graphics cards of the same brand with wildly different prices, or a 16x dvd burner swapped with a 2x)

Thus defrauding the return desk is a common means by which these things happen. On top of that you can have the inside jobs, so whenever buying retail, always open it in store.

He got arrested for that?

Sheesh he could've at least thrown a few pieces of wood at the manager to make it more worthwhile.

The computer box was probably originally openned from the bottom so it would not look like it was never opened. But someone could carefully retape the box and make it look brand new. It was probably returned as unopened and brand new. And I think Best Buy would not open a return if they think it was never opened.

Happened to me in Walmart. I was looking for the Linksys Wireless G router, and found one. The shrink wrap was torn off, so I looked inside and it was a B. The guy just said, "Someone got away with one."

Why, because they arrest you when you threaten their lives for trying to scam them?

Sounds like the guy deserved to get arrested. He threatened to kill an employee and kept yelling and swearing even after cops asked him to stop.

If i juts stole $1300 from you would you not do the same? The only diff. is this happened in a larger outlet, not a one to one person.

Sorry but he got ripped off, and by the tune of $1300 I be pissed as well.
