Apparently New York Times is saying that " chokeholds are forbidden by the Patrol Guide, a voluminous book that contains rules for officers. “Members of the New York City Police Department will NOT use chokeholds,” the Patrol Guide states, defining chokeholds as any maneuver that places “pressure to the throat or windpipe, which may prevent or hinder breathing or reduce intake of air.”

In LA a lot of black people were dying from LAPD chokeholds. Chief Daryl Gates explained that this may be because blacks may have more medical issues than normal people. This caused LAPD officers to realize that they drove black and normal police cars.

What a bunch of trash those cops are. If this is really true, that the man killed by the police was truly innocent in all of this, the family should get the killer's head on a freakin' platter.

Obviously that's a metaphor, but the cop in this case should be tried for murder and go away for life. Guy was basically begging for his life. Im guessing the cop was just dying to try out the new choke hold he learned by watching Youtube.

You would think people would get that. How many times have you ever seen cops stop trying to arrest someone just because they don't want to get arrested. You will always get you day in court but fighting with the cops just makes it worse. You may be found totally innocent of all the charges the cop was initially arresting you for but now you have a charge that will stick and that is resisting arrest.

still have to pay a bondsman, money you will never get back..... think of people working at the lowest rungs of society, missing a day of work because your in jail (even if you are innocent) most of the time will get you fired from a job like that...

the justice system ruins family left and right..

in some small towns it takes days to even see the judge for the arraignment hearing, you could be sitting in jail, for two day, no way to contact anyone on the outside (if you've ever been to jail you'd know there are phones, but they are collect calls only, and last time i was there (4 or 5 years ago) just to answer the phone it costs 8 bucks and some change.. and the phones can only call lan lines,... it's terrible.

people get arrested for minor shit these days and lose everything.

In America you can go to jail or prison for pretty much anything these days, we are nothing but a nation full of laws. Shit you can go to jail just for walking on the wrong side of the street. We really are not a free country like people think we are.

The first time I visited Asia this was apparent to me. I can jaywalk without getting a ticket! I can drink beer on the street. I don't have to wear a seat belt if I don't want to. But fighting with the police does not get you out of jail. 999 times out of 1000 it will just make things worse, often time a LOT worse.

Cop is fucked with a capital F. Most departments choke holds are not authorized unless deadly physical force is authorized. I guarantee he loses his job a minimum, and he will probably be indicted.

That said, i have no love lost for a career criminal with 31 arrests under his belt (deceased).
