at age 74 I hope he's retired. What does the guy do for a living? Or does he get paid to just donate his blood?
There's A, B, AB and O. I guess you're AB which is rare and is a universal recipient. You can receive blood from anyone, but you can only give to other ABs.
What about 'because the thought of inserting a sharp piece of metal in my vein in the hopes of depleting some of my precious blood that keeps me alive, makes me sick to my stomach and I'd probably faint'
Yeah I may be mistaken on the name, I know it's the one where I can give to anyone.
If logic applied to this situation, then yes, that would work perfectly. However, it's a law passed by government, so it doesn't have to be logical.
O- blood can be given to anyone, A person with AB+ can receive any blood type.
I am AB+
I think thats right, but I am doing this from memory.
I think this man deserves a prize. Is there a 'humanitarian' Nobel peace prize? If not, they should create it and give this guy the first.

Just curious, but what's the demand like for different parts of blood? Is there a shortage of whole blood compared to just platelets? Which one is the best one to give? This. from reading the article, they don't need his red blood cells or even platelets, just the plasma with the antibodies. So he's probably not donating whole blood.
This is actually really good to know. If you want to kill someone in the most ridiculous way, inject them with blood they can't handle. If I'm not mistaken, it clots inside of their veins. There's A, B, AB and O. I guess you're AB which is rare and is a universal recipient. I don't know if you can say any one is 'better' than another. Whole blood is more demanding on the donor to give, but the easiest to take - they just drain the blood and off you go.Just curious, but what's the demand like for different parts of blood? to people who refuse to donate blood for stupid-ass reasons like "because it's my blood" or "because i'm afraid of needles"
retarded.
 to the guy in the op

I'm O/RH/Neg, so I'd like to look into donating. I have no qualms with needles or any of that.
However, I remember reading somewhere that you have to be drug free for one year? That hardly sounds right to me, and it makes me ineligible. But I think I misunderstood, because you can donate 6 months after getting a tattoo.

74 and still donating blood every few weeks with a total of 984 donations since 18.
Wait, what is this? A post that is actually positive? Say it aint so?
I just checked my card now that I'm home, and it's "A RH Negative" that I have. Doing further research, don't think I'm universal like I thought I was. Someone had told me but they must of been mistaken. Still looks like it's a rare type though.
