When I was in school full time and working full time I left the house around 6:30-7, went to work then school then back to work to get in my 45-50 hours a week of work and got home around 8-9:30pm for 8 months out of the year.

Was not making 6 figures though.

Who doesn't? But both of us still young and not married yet. I wouldn't mind working my ass off more for more $$$. You can get cushy job when you're older.

I'm 40 and there is no way I'd put in those kinds of hours now. It isn't worth it now and when I worked longer hours when I was younger, it wasn't worth it then either.

sounds like a shitty job to me.
I'd rather have time than money in almost every circumstance.
You never mentioned what time she STARTS her day though.

100% this.

i was able to take off today because i worked 44 last week and 36 this week. gotta love that flexibility

Her hours are the reason why I never worked for a large Public Audit firm.

Giving up your free time in your twenties really isn't worth any amount of money. By the time you're in your mid-30s or 40s you won't have any free time due to kids and family. Hope you don't regret taking advantage of it now.

I used to work 7 days a week. 1 job on the weekends for 8/day (starting at 5:30 am), and then M-F for anywhere between 8 and 24 hours. Longest shift was just short of 3 days

Went back to school, finished, now I'm on vacation before my new job starts. Life is pretty good right now.

My job is moderately interesting but the great part about it is flexing my schedule. Want to play ball over lunch? work 8-11 and 1-6. Need to take a kid to the doctor work 10-6 or leave for two hours midday and work an extra couple hours tomorrow. Get the work done, attend 2-4 meetings/week and they don't care what hours you work.

I agree 100%. I don't get people who constantly brag about the amount of hours they work. Like it's some sort of badge or honor where you can work 80 hours a week or something. To me that's not bragable at all, in fact that seems the exact opposite of what I would want to brag about. Time is one thing that you can never get more of and never get back.

I heard a saying "Nobody ever lies on their death bed and says "Man, I really wish I would have worked more and put more hours in at the office""

Not to mention taxes will take away a lot, making the labour worthless.

What does this mean, is she or is she not making six figures?

When people say they make six figures it usually assumes they are working one job. If you are make 6 figures but working the hours of two jobs thats not a significant statement.

She does, but she works so many hours, it's probably equivalent to making 80~.

But then more hours = more money anyway.

I have no idea what this means.

She does make six figures ($100,000+), but she works so many hours it's probably equivalent to making $80,000?

But more hours equal more money anyway.

I'm lost dude.

salary is 100k which you could say hourly is 50 an hour.

which is nice if you only work 40 hours a week.

problem is right now she is putting in so much time (and not getting extra pay), it has diluted her hourly income to about 40 an hour which is roughly 80k a year.

Not really all that hard to figure out is it?

she knew this before coming on board.

big4 mentality = work for 4 years until you're burned out then find another job.

Who brags about how much they work? wtf? That's like bragging about how much you overpaid for a product.

Not anymore, but I used to have this schedule

Monday - Friday: 11pm (the previous day) - 2pm
Saturday: 12am-9am
Sunday: 6am-12pm

Plus I might have meetings to go to anywhere from 2-8pm on the weekdays. It was exciting.

I don't really care how much I work so long as I get my weekends to myself, and get a decent amount of vacation. As I get more senior, I'll reduce my hours and take more vacation.

I really agree though, the i-banker life is not for me. Dying with a huge pile of money and a life where you did nothing but work is something of a failure in my books.
