I would definately consider keeping it, but I would eventually turn it in. I don't think I could live with myself if I kept it.

I love all the guys here justifying their theiving ways with comments like

"If they got that much money, they deserve to lose it"
"If they are stupid enough to leave it, they don't need it"

Let me enlighten you asshats

If it doesn't belong to you and you take it, it's FVCKING STEALING!!!! and stealing is wrong period. It's not OK to steal from rich people, stupid people, old people, or any people period.

With the logic you employ, I guess it's OK to steal from the blind because they can't see what they are missing. Or it's OK to steal from the disabled because they can't use it anyway. I quess it would be OK to steal from just about anybody as long as you properly justify your criminal actions

no it's not

I found $110 on the floor in one of my dorms once. Wanna call that stealing too?

Believe me, I'd be tempted just to see that it was a LV bag. Sadly, I know I would have turned it in. I'm the type that does that without regrets.

I would return it, even if it was $1 million in cash.

Those who are saying that people who lost the purse is stupid for leaving it on a bench: people are sometimes forgetful, rich or poor. It's not because they are stupid. A affluent person losing $1 million worth of valuables is similar to a middle class person losing his/her wallet/purse with credit cards/cash. To the majority of the public, yea, $1 million is a lot of money, but it's still a lost item.

If I had found the purse, I would have returned it, no second thoughts.

If it has anything identifying the owner like it was an envelope with a name on it. If you kept it, it's stealing. Large sums of money on the ground is a little harder, but may still identified. Like if you found a brown bag full of cash. I say if you made no effort, you're stealing. Figure out who's $5 it belongs to is damn near impossible and it'll be understandable why you didn't even bother.

Most of these replies yet again reminds me why I have so little faith in so many people.

I agree, if you find loose cash of an insignificant amount $5-10 it is reasonable to assume you will never find the owner. Large amounts of cash you should make the effort to find the owner and report it to authorities, and if no one claims it you get it with a clean concious.

But those comparing a LV handbag with $1mil in jewelry to $5 found on the ground are just trying to justify their morale low ground.

The expression "what goes around , comes around" comes to mind as well.

It doesn't surprise me that the person who returned this lives in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Does San Fran have a monopoly on good, decent people?

Actually, this occurred in Sausalito, Marin County, and the guy who returned it was a San Rafael (marin county) resident.
If this had happened in SF, I don't think we would be discussing this (it would be gone).

If you find something of value, like a bag of money or jewelry, you are required to turn it in to the police-or it is theft.

Sadly, I did. My friend's lil sister and her friends are fashion experts and they just love keeping everyone up to speed.

Stfu and get off your high horse. Idiotic people get what they deserve. If that stuff really meant that much to the person then they would not have been carrying it around with them for a stroll in the park. Never mind the fact that she left it on a fvcking park bench.

If your dumb with your money your going to lose it.

idiot...

so you're saying you've never lost a wallet? your mom, sister..etc has never lost a purse or something valuable? Just because someone loses something doesn't mean they don't deserve it...

those two things... jewelry and handbags... are big weaknesses for me and i would be sooooo tempted. but in the end, i am confident that my conscience would not allow me to keep what is not mine.

but i would be pissed off if i did not at least get a reward.

Too bad.
I have lost things and so has my family. Live and learn. Not too hard a concept.

i'd wouldn't return it. but i wouldn't keep it either. people try to make a moral statement about why they'd return it, and I can understand that. But what about the moral argument for not returning it? A 12 carat diamond? that kind of wasted wealth disgusts me. I'd pawn it all and give the money to charity.
Would do much more good than returning a bag to someone rich enough to lose it.
if you can "forget" a bag with over a million in it, you can afford to lose it.

Exactly. Finders keepers & all that.

Common sense isn't your strong suit is it

I wasted time trying to make you see logic, so I guess not.

i'd return it, not because i'm a good samaritan, but because i'd have a hell of a time trying to convert $1m of jewelry into cash

The approximate 38% that voted hell no, is about in line with the moral / ethical statistics that have been published before. I just can't remember where I read them. That pretty much says to me, you can't trust about 38% of people on this planet.

And I would return it all intact....I could live with myself no other way.
