Your auto insurance my include coverage that will pay your hospital bill.

Generally, your auto policy's PIP (personal injury protection) or med pay coverage will pay medical bill for you or your passengers--check your policy or ask you insurer to see if you have this coverage.

Dude, do you have any idea how much whiplash victims suffer?

Had it been me in the GrandAm and got hit by an inattentive driver from the ass end, that driver can expect to be sued big time by me. I just got to get a good lawyer.

I came close to collision many times because some people rely on others braking to avoid collision and think its okay to beat me to the light from stop sign and stuff, but I never hit anything because even if its their inattentiveness, I pay attention.

But consider the perspective of the passengers in the other car. If they are unable to perform their daily activities, e.g. go to work, then they need to be compensated.

oh, i agree with yellowperil.. but thats why i have state farm car insurance.. they should be handling everything... the only thing thats probably gonna come back to me moneywise is a higher insurance rate... and car payments..

This might vary from state to state, but as far as I know, the other driver sues you, you show up to court and your insurance company will try to defend you and they pay the cost up to the insurance payout limit. If the court awards the other party in excess of your coverage, the outstanding comes out of your pocket.(likely especially if you have minimum insurance)

i dont have minimum insurance... im on my mothers good policy... but yes if the damages are super high, i'd have to pay.. i really dont think they'll be super high though.... chances are that my insurance company will settle with the other people out of court... heck.. the girl didnt even sound like she wanted to show up to court to make sure i got a guilty plea.. the driver wasnt pissed at all...

you people are funny. Because if it isn't bob970 posting but the other driver, I'm sure all you would be ripping on bob and telling the poster to sue bob's ass off.

Could it be because we adapt to make the forum poster's feel better?

When they get hurt, many of us switch into plaintiff mode while in situation like his, we enter defendant mode.

prolly cuz this is in a weird way, a community... ATOT'ers kinda defend each other.. for whatever reason...

btw, i wasnt looking for reaction either way... i was just mostly pissed that i hit another car and possibly hurt other people

i dont know what exact coverage i had.... i think just liability tho..

Glad to hear everyone is ok. I have been in a few accidents so I know what that burnning in the pit of your stomach feels like when someone else gets carted off in an ambulance, and your fine ( relitively speaking )

Just be glad everyone is ok. That is what is important. Pay no attention to the crappers, no one else does. Hope you start to feel better, now that you know everyone else is ok.

That's good news. Been waiting to hear just that!

I've got a question about that air bag. Would you prefer that it had been disconnected? Did it save you from bouncing your face off the steering wheel? Was there an air bag for your passenger? Did it go off? Did they suffer "burns" too?

My mother-in-law is scared to death of hers. She's short and petite, and sits close to the wheel in an Avalon. She ought to have it disconnected, eh?

no.. im glad it did go off... my passanger's went off too, but she didnt get burned.. just a tiny tiny tiny cut on her nose.. if it didnt go off.. i woulda ate the steering wheel hardcore..my head hit hard enough on the airbag that it still pushed up and cracked my windshield a little.. probably because im so tall... i woulda hurt something badly on the wheel itself

Man! You two did have belts on didn't you? And you still came close to the windshield? In my wildest dreams (or nightmares), I wouldn't think that would be possible! :Q

honestly.. im not 100% that i did have a belt on... but im pretty positive... im pretty sure that i ripped my belt off, kicked my door open, and got out afterwards... altho.. i dont even remember pulling it over onto a side street... which i obviously did.. i was in a MAD adrenaline rush...

I hope I never have to go through that. Just pulled out in front of a car in a parking lot the other night. It was raining and my night vision sucks. In hindsight, his headlights blended with the lights from the buildings behind him. Just didn't see him at all. Really queer feeling. But we were going so slow it was no problem for him to stop. It's pretty easy to see how accidents happen after that, but it still doesn't make it feel any better.
