LOL awesome. See the post quoted by the post you quoted.

I know they also had to tap out of Labrador because the thaw stranded him from his rescue crew, and them from civilization, so it put unnecessary risks of being unable to get help incase something did happen.

thank god, i was getting sick of that survivor man crap. and anyone who thinks survivor man is better because its "real" is out of thier mind, none of this is real its all fake and for entertainment.

I disagree, he packs all his own equipment and even carries the camera gear .He often has to walk out, place the camera, then walk back by the camera to get the shot (then retrieve the camera). He is on his own. I can't figure out how he eats so little and still has energy to hike around, hunt, etc. He is one tough SOB.

and that constitutes a realistic survival situation? Ill remember never to leave my 50lbs of camera equipment at home next time i go hiking in the wilderness.

My favorite is when he eats some tiny morsel of food after 96 hours of nothing, thoughtfully chews away, and then announces he is full. he did catch a rabbit in a snare once.

maybe he just sucks at finding food?

Ummm....I think you're missing the point. No cameras, no show. *shrug*

And yeah....I think he does kinda suck at finding food....but then I wouldn't do better.

Les has a dry sens of humor which I appreciate. Baer usually ends up climbing down some sheer rock face that most normal people would not want to do even in a survival situation.

They just had a "Behind the scenes" show for Survivorman. For every episode Les works with a local survival expert to learn all the survival techniques for the location.

I think youre missing my point, its a show, not much to do with survival. as many have said several times hes "tapped out" when the going gets tough. I think by the end of the first few shows we've established that he has enough skills to find food and shelter to survive in the wild by himself, now what is he doing? making a show, thats about it. noone in thier right mind would, or would be allowed, to put themselves in a life or death situation, anyone arguing that one show is more "real" then the other is just fooling themselves. its for entertainment, plain and simple. while survivorman might give a more realistic feel, man vs wild is more entertaining.

I've noticed:

MvW : The guy seems to be on the move... trying to get out of the situation.

S M : Tends to stay put and "survive" in the place he's at.

I also like both shows, but:

MvW: He's not IN the situations it seems he's trying to get out of. He films some very nice shots of different potential encounters, but he's not really stranded out in wherever his show is taking place that day.

SM: Depends on the goal of that episode. In the first season, it tended to seem that he had been challenged to make it to a preagreed point within a week, or else the crew would be sent out to look for him, the one exception being the swamp episode where he was simply challenged to survive for 7 days (though he did try and make it back). Sometimes its all about just surviving till his time is up, and a lot of the time he simply runs out of time to get where he was going, or mother nature intervenes (the Labrador episode, a little bit in the deserted island episode)

And as to the "Les Stroud has no personality" comments, are you watching the same show I am? Les is FULL of personality. I find Bear extremely flat, and coming across like a jaded high school teacher.

I would rather be stranded with, have a beer with, just generally hang out with Les. Bear would get on my nerves within a day.

Ok randay, I suppose you are some survival master. The point is he is way more hardcore than you or me but only one of us realizes it

im not arguing that fact, they are both more hardcore then anyone i know. im arguing the whole mvs vs. survivorman camps. and the whole "mvs is fake" thing.

that said, if some crazy mf-er comes out with a survival show where he f-s up the panther instead of running from it, ... well he would have a hit show on his hands

Ya know, I remember watching, at work, a documentary of this guy who moved up in to the absolute boonies of Alaska and just lived off the land, hutned, built a log cabin and all that stuff. I think he shot all the film himself, and lived there for like 20+ years. For the life of me, though, I cannot remember his name or the name of the documentary.

Anyone familiar with this?

Found it, Dick Proenneke. Documentary is called "Alone in the Wilderness"....now I have to go buy it.

I'm glad it's back on. Bear is a bad muthafvcka! Regardless of not if some of the stuff he does is "fake" - he's still teaching a lesson during the show and giving tips and advice on how to survive and some of the sh!t he does on there would be extremely hard to be faked.

Survivorman is borrrinng.

See, that's what I'm talking about!

They might as well have a survivor show where someone wrestles a bear over a pot of honey.

when will that be on PPV??? that is a must watch.

$5 spot on the bear.

well its not honey, but its salmon...

no one person is going to have the same accident and no one is actually going to be in the same place and it is better that he details situations and possible outcomes of all types, and he isn't going to seriously put his life in danger for the sake of a TV show just because it got a little close to home for you doesn't make it that serious, and whens the last time you went into the alps or ate a raw fish on television

The narration seems different on newer MvW shows. If I remember earlier episodes, it makes it seem like he's doing it to survive. In the newer ones, he says things like "I've had this dead animal placed here from a local farmer to show you what to do in this situation" (i'm paraphrasing...a lot). Anyone else notice this?
