Mandrake Linux and Fat32/ME Dual Boot Problems

So I wanted to try out Mandrake 7 on my ME/Redhat6 dual boot system (had lilo on a floppy to boot redhat when needed). When I installed Mandrake over redhat it automagically installed this crappy grub thing over the default bootloader for ME, Ok I figured that I could live with grub as long as I could get it to boot by default into ME, I used drakconf to set grub's default boot to be ME and thats where my troubles started, when i rebooted my system it tried to boot me but failed and went back to grub, I got back into linux , tried to mount the fat32 ME drive and it worked fine, I then used the ME startup disk to see if I could use the ME setup to repair the boot sector and could not access the drive, when I try to use the drive from the startup disks command prompt I get invalid media type.

Its kinda wierd, I can mount the drive in linux, look at the files on the drive but cannot access it using windows (I only tried the startup disk so far) does anyone know of any linux fat32 repair programs or any other way I can get windows to recognize this drive and boot from it ?

First, make a boot disk/rescue disk when in Mandrake. After you do that, reboot with a Windows boot disk and try fdisk /mbr to get rid of GRUB and see if you can boot to Windows now.

If you can't, boot back into Linux and as root run fdisk and see what partition is marked as bootable.
