Why would they drop Revis? Not only did they pay him a ton of money, they aren't even playing to his strengths. Sure, he might have lost a step, but sitting him in zone isn't helping the Bucs win any games.

Question - Would you guys have any issues with a defense blowing up the line/QB to prevent what Stafford did even if the QB ended up just spiking it? Had the Cowboys gone after Stafford they probably would have been villified like the Bucs last year for blowing up a victory formation.

I myself have no issue with it.. just a curiosity thing.

Is AP going to get traded? .. Methinks the Vikings should trade him.. Who could be a potential trade partner?

That's exactly what I thought when I saw it. Great play by Stafford, but it might have opened a can of worms.

Yeah, Stafford didn't need to do that. They still had two timeouts left, plenty of time to punch it in. After that fakery, teams aren't going to sit back and watch.

Totally different scenarios. A team that's taking a knee has the lead (or a tie and they're playing for OT) and they are surrendering their downs to run clock. A team that's spiking the ball is doing so because they are out of timeouts (or want to preserve them) and NEED to stop the clock because they are losing the game. A team that is trailing is not going to give up, they're going to attempt to score, so the defense ALWAYS needs to be ready, even if they expect the ball to be spiked. I figured that Detroit would try to punch it in immediately, either by running the ball or a quick pass; they only needed about a foot, and if you catch the defense scrambling, you've got a good chance to pick that up.

So, in answer to your question, I don't have an issue with a defense rushing an "obvious" spike situation; I do have an issue with rushing a kneel-down (it's the difference between the game being still up for grabs and the game being over).

No they wouldn't have, there's a big difference between the victory formation and clocking the ball.

Most of the posters are missing the point. Stafford was signalling for everyone to line up and he was going to perform a spike. His offensive live didn't even block (except for the center). Nobody knew he was going to sneak it. If the D-Line had played like normal, it would have been a dead Stafford.

But, if they went and Stafford did indeed spike the ball, it would have been a huge mark against Dallas.

Personally, I have no problem. I don't even have a problem with the victory formation being "attacked" in certain scenarios. Look at KC the week before this one. They kneeled with a very small lead. If the snap was muffed by Smith, and Houston recovered, they had a chance. Yet, they just sat back and let KC win the game. In the event of blowouts, I understand, but in some cases, you shouldn't stop playing until time is out.

it's a run-first offense and Harbaugh seems smart enough to be doing what they should be doing over the last 4 weeks: feed Gore the ball.

I don't understand why they have been going away from that. Gore might be getting old (I think he is 31 now), but he still runs between the tackles better than most running backs in the NFL and has enough speed, if he gets past the line, he is a threat. It would make a lot more sense for SF to continue to pound the ball and have big defensive stops. They can groom Kap while not sacrificing games if they want to switch to some spread garbage throw on every down offense.

I have a title for next week's NFL thread.

*How To Lose A Lead: Cowboys vs Random Team* NFL Week 9 Thread

It's difficult for me to say this as a Skins fan, but I'm starting to feel sorry for the Cowboys. wtf, man?

Freeman really is only being bad this season. Prior to that he was a good QB. His QBR standout was obviously 2010, but last year he still had over 4,000 yards and a 54% completion percentage.

Niners fans hated Smith when he was there from what I saw among friends. They all were so happy Kap was starting the playoffs and Smith got traded. Now, they've changed their tune a bit.

I don't know any 49er fans than want Smith back. Please. This is such a load of garbage.

I don't buy into the "trade him while he's still valuable for high draft picks" logic unless he's made his intentions unmistakenly clear that he's not returning. Other than that, it's completely asinine to let arguably the best RB in the history of the game go for anyone, of course, depending on the offer.

Now, Melo has publicly said he wants to be a FA -- I am not sure though if Peterson has made that clear and if he has, I retract my post.

Plus AP is what...29? He's at the age where RB's typically wisp away anyway. If I was a trade partner, I am not offering much for him.

Just now giving up caring because of Jerry Jones? That should have happened around 2000.

No, this season. I have a new outlook every year because I feel they improve in some way. I already know what I'm getting with JJ.

I had to hear how Kap was the second coming of Joe Montana / Jesus for so long. And now, they've all conveniently shushed about him. "Smith is terrible, we need a new QB" was all I heard before last season and then "Omg Kap is so good! We are now the best ever!". Ain't nobody saying that anymore. Tiny, little Russel Wilson spanking you once and Kap not putting up anything sure quieted those guys. Happened almost as quickly as all those Houston fans that loved to hate on the Cowboys and Romo. Then they paid Schaub a visit and are begging for a win.

AP, after coming back from surgery, was 9 yards away from breaking the rushing record and he was (at least of last week) ahead of his pace last year. He is far from close to done as long as he stays relatively healthy.

This season, in loses, he is average 4.1 per carry and in wins 6.1. A team with a good line and a decent QB threat would be a great fit for him.

edit: and he is 28.

Saints! No one talks about them. Semi decent defense and running game is coming back. Not bad!

Tough November for the Saints coming up.

@Jets
Cowboys
49ers
@Falcons (Thurs)
@Seahawks (Mon)

I know ATL is struggling, but the turnaround from a Sunday game against SF to a Thursday in ATL is going to be tough. Then a Monday night game in Seattle. I think a 3-2 November would be a success.

Strangely, the Saints won't play Carolina for the first time until December 8.

Brandon Meriweather on his "new" ... eh hem ... tackling style.

"I guess I just got to take people's knees out," Meriweather said Monday morning in the Redskins' locker room. "That's the only way. I would hate to end a guy's career over a rule, but I guess it's better other people than me getting suspended for longer.

"You just have to go low now, man. You've got to end people's careers. You got to tear people's ACLs and mess up people's knees. You can't hit them high anymore."

How about you just wrap and take the runner down you fucking asshat.

That really seems to be in Carolina's favor. They were struggling early this season and have now seemed to get it together. I don't think they stand a chance, but I am not a big Scam Newton fan.
