You're naive if you think anybody is above scrutiny, even Frank Thomas.

The people i scrutinize were mediocre players who somehow managed to have monster years for 1-3 seasons and then were never heard from again or drastically declined/got hurt. So unless The Hurt was juicing for 20 years from college all the way to 2008 without ever getting caught or even accused of then I'd be stunned.

That's what people said about A-Rod until he got caught.

Canseco talked about Rod years ago....

I am absolutely loving the silence I am hearing about Manny from all my Dodger and Red Sox friends who were all over me about Bonds (I'm a Giants fan).

thats why baseball sucks

This is a serious question:

Have you ever played organized baseball?

yeah. lets see. sit on bench, eat snack, wait for the rest of lineup to cycle through. stand up to bat (not youre not moving in place). run to a plate or 2. team sideouts and walk to outfield. stand still and sweat in sun, wait for pop-up, get back to bench and wait for lineup again.

i play it, because i'd play anything, but god help anybody who has to watch it

and this is why soccer, basketball, football, and other sports which require people to move frequently, are more interesting

Yep, it's true. Doesn't mean Bonds isn't an enormous fucking douchebag though.

Frank Thomas baby. I think this pushes him into the greatest right handed hitter era now. woo

dude is a beast. Would you actually be surprised if it was discovered that he was juicing? I sure as shit wouldn't.

Palmeiro, Tejada....I think very few people saw those coming.

Yes i would be surprised because he never doubled in mass over an off season....he was always a monster from day 1 and his production was steady from 1991 on.

With all the coverage of the effect of steroid and HGH use, there are people that still assume significantly increased muscle size to be a prerequisite? Wow.

yeah, its just a coincidence that all these guys gained 70lbs and went from 10-15 hr seasons to 40+, had mediocre pitching careers and then exploded for 1-2 years. Yep, I have no clue what I'm talking about. Read much?

I like how people continue to ignore the fact that most of the MLB ballparks were updated or rebuilt, with an ave. shorter depth during the same time period that saw a massive leap in HR hitting. And this is exactly what MLB wanted to happen when the shorter fields became standard.

Of course, plenty still want to blame steroids, which is completely silly.

I vote this. How many times in Boston did he just not show up to play (citing a cold, or didn't feel right, or w/e)? Or decide to goof off in the Monster during a game, sit in the field, etc. With the amount of arrogance he carries, he should be on the Yankees.

No, it's not. He just doesn't get paid.

That remains to be seen. I doubt Manny and his agent are just going to sit idly by and let the club keep all the money. Not when there's already precedent set that allowed a player player to donate his suspended salary to charity (ie Jason Grimsley). Of course, the money Grimsley made is peanuts compared to Ramirez, so I expect a whole lot more litigation and probably a formal grievance in this case.

Its already been reported that he will lose 8 million and they already took out all the marketing shit based around him.

Yeah, the fact that barry bonds hit 50% of his 73 HR's in 2001 at the 2nd to worst HR park in the majors that year was just a crazy outlier to your theory that it was the stadiums fault.

Don't you think if the MLB could prove the massive power numbers were just because of some windy games and shorter fences they would be spamming the shit out of that? To deny steroids had any impact, when its so blatantly obvious is silly. How do you explain guys who popped up out of nowhere with 50+ homerun seasons in the late 90's and early 00's?

I think he confused it with beer-league softball

IMO, yeah there's alot of down time and you can be a fat dude. But to be a good ALL-AROUND player, you cannot be 350 lb's. The david well's of the world may have been solid pitchers, but they couldnt hit, field, or run.

It's your own thread, at least follow along. We're not discussing whether or not he will lose his salary. That's a no brainer. I'm submitting the possibility that he may be able to donate all or some part of it to charity.

Huh? My thread?

Even if it was donated to charity, it wouldn't be "Manny donating to charity" it would be "Dodgers donating to charity" and considering the economy, they will almost certainly not be giving away 8 mil when it could be used to sign someone else.

Ok maybe it's not your thread, I'm tripping. The fact remains though that we were discussing the possibility of it going to charity and no, if it did, it would be under Manny's name, not the Dodger organization. See Jason Grimsley.

No, still incorrect. The Dbacks CUT Grimsley and they agreed on donating the remainder of his salary - the money lost after the suspension. They didn't want to pay him after the cut, but eventually did and he donated THAT money to charity.

That would be equivalent to Manny donating 20-8=12 million to charity, which sure as shit won't happen
