So was I supposed to be born with this knowledge? Why would you assume that I know anything about manuals when I said I have never driven one?

Once you become proficient in driving a manual you will rarely stall the car again. But like someone already said there's no way you can stall while in the middle of the turn.

Just give the car a ton of gas before releasing the clutch. The tires may spin but the car will be fine. This is the sure-fire, fail free way of doing things.

I have to admit I have done that a few times in my early days. I also used to do that on hills where I panic about hitting the car behind me.

There's an opening, so you start turning. All of a sudden the car stalls. BOOOOOOOM!!!!!!!! you get smashed by the other cars.

So has this happened to anyone?

Learn how to slip the clutch, or pre-downshift while slowing for the opening.

You don't need to have ever driven a manual to understand how it works. Elementary logic should have covered it.

Since you "want your next car to be a manual" it is reasonable to assume that, while you have never driven one, you have a good understanding of the theory behind how a manual transmission works. If you don't, then how the hell can you possibly know that you want to have a manual transmission in your next car?

I know I want a manual because I don't like when my automatic shifts when I don't want it to.

If that's the only ... ahem ... "driving force" behind the choice, then get an automatic with manual gear selection.

No, I down shift and give it gas. High gear and low speed make the motor go "pukka, pukka, stall".

Read the car's manual, it will tell you all about manual shifting. edit

That's the exact reason why I sold my manual car and got an auto... I am a pretty good manual driver, but my gf can't drive manual at all... sure I can teach her, but I'm worried something like this would happen to her... so just went with an auto and be on the safe side

That's a pretty lame reason. Plenty of bad things can happen in automatic too.

Tell me how his chances are any higher with an auto than a standard?

Your response is the only lame part of this equation.

It would never happen. If you are going to stall it will be immediate, you won't move enough to put yourself at any risk. Once you understand how to drive a manual you won't stall at all. I stall my car MAYBE once a year, and that is usually when I am pulling out of a tight parking space. If you want a situation to worry about stopping on hills is it, but even then you learn to do it.

I think you really need to learn to drive a manual before you make a decision on buying one. It isn't for everyone.

Anticipate the turn. Downshift when you slow down enough and give it gas. It takes a while to get used to driving stick, but it is kind of learning how to ride a bike, you don't forget once you learn it.

Trying to understand what it feels like to make an unconscious decision without the background to make that decision consciously is not going to help you. You need to learn manual before you start thinking about scenarios and what your unconscious behaviors will be. Simply understand that as a good driver of a manual transmission on a regular basis, your foot will not come out, off of the clutch, without your other leg giving the car some gas.
This at worst will result in spinning tires, or at worst, you pannicking and roasting the tires, crawling into oncoming traffic to your doom.

Odds are, that if you achieve the status of a "good driver" with a manual, you will at most spin the tires a little when you screw up.
We all stall once in a while, so keep in mind that Darwin is a sly devil

I think the point is that you bought another car because of your girlfriends potential incompetence...

you really can't defend the indefensible after reading what you posted

Ok so here's another question.
If I was stopped, and I put it in 5th gear and floored it, would it stall? Does it stall whenever it is in gear and not moving?
