Yes - Honda Prelude. Prefer it this way.
What emergency situations you guys speak of where you would rather the clutch not be depressed before starting?
Then why not put it in gear and try starting it?Originally posted by: jagec

Well, there was the one time I was stuck on a gravel road high in the Andes with a land-rover that died. It was HEAVY, needless to say, and I needed to turn it around to coast back down the mountain to get help. I ended up having to use the starter motor to "pull" the car forward enough to turn it around.
Similarly, if your engine dies somewhere inconvenient and you HAVE to move the car a few feet, you can do so if your clutch doesn't have a switch.
But since most people will NEVER encounter such a situation, and are much more likely to do the stupid thing and hit something when they don't press the clutch...a switch is a good idea in most cases.
Sucks that we have to appeal to the lowest common denominator, though.

It was my understanding that this was a "neutral safety" issue.

Huh? The engine was DEAD...it was not going to start.
I needed to get back down the mountain, to where the only guy with a spark plug socket was.

I've regarded this as a north american idiot-resistant thing, because most every car I've ever driven overseas didn't require me to press the clutch.
