Looking for a cheap way to spruce up your dining room, living, room or bedroom? Slap some crown moulding up there. The women love it.

My local Menards (Peoria, IL) had 14' planks of 3 & 1/4" primed and unprimed pine moulding for $8.99 a piece. Normal price was over $17.00 a piece.

They also had a ton of hardwould moulding, chair rails, and trim peices in oak, maple, and cherry that had normal retail prices of $35-$25 on sale for $15-$6. I know I saw some $35 cherry chair rails for around $6.

I bought out the last 14 planks of the pine moulding they had at my store and will be slapping that up in a couple rooms.

You are right about crown molding. Some of those home shows on TV where they bring people around to look at houses, they bring them in to show it, and often they exclaim "crown molding!" I just don't get all the excitement about crown molding, unless they are conditioned to get excited about it because other people do.

We just got a Menards! Nice store too. I wonder if the moulding deal is local?

It really is funny. We were watching one show and the realtor of all people points up at in one home and goes "Oh look, crown moulding!" and it's freaking cove moulding that you usually stick along cabinets and baseboards. That stuff is like $.40 a foot normal price. And this was in a $450,000 condo in Chicago.

At these prices I can do a 12x12 room for around $50. If you have colored walls (instead of white) and have white trim along your baseboards it does add a nice visual pop to the place. It also hides any painting boo-boo's your wife may have done to the ceiling while painting the walls.

My wife and I have a fair deal. I hang it, she caulks the edges, fills the nail holes and paints it.
