Many Shuttle SN25P Questions!

So I have a pretty newly built system but I decided to consolidate into a Shuttle. I think the SN25P is the best choice for me since I need a 939 and PCI-E shuttle.

1) What the heck does SFF stand for? Shuttle Form Factor?
2) Can you change the PSU that comes with it to any ATX PSU? I have an OCZ ModStream 450W not being used. Will that fit?
3) Will my XFX GeForce 6600GT fit into this without any problems?
4) Is my Corsair XMS TWINX1024-3200LL compatible with this Shuttle?
5) What can I use the PCI-E x1 slot for?

Also where is the cheapest place I can buy it from if I'm in California? Newegg is the cheapest place I've found it at for about $390 AR and tax and shipping. Are there any places that don't tax California that sell the SN25P?

Thanks in advance guys! Also take a look at my old stuff for sale if you're interested in building a PC!

SFF = Shuttle Form Factor or Small Form Factor depending on who you're asking.
Your PSU will not fit. Shuttle uses a special PSU.
Your video card will work.
Memory is good.
The PCI-E slot will be for future expansion cards.

Also, can I fit 92mm or 120mm fans on this SFF? I have some Vantec Stealths that I would like on there but if they can't then I'm going to sell them with my PC.

Sorry I didn't mean 92mm, I meant either 80mm or 120mm. Does that mean there is basically nothing you can add to this SFF other then what is stock? Get a better heatsink or heatsink fan? Anything?

The heatsink and fan is already nice, I wouldn't replace it. You can't really do much modification do it, and I wouldn't either, it's nice how it is.

So is NewEgg the cheapest place to buy it right now? I can't seem to find anywhere else that has it for cheaper. I really wish this didn't have a PCI-E x1 slot but rather a normal PCI expansion slot. There is nothing I can think off the top of my head that uses PCI-E right now.

Hey there,

The Shuttle SFF systems come with everything that you will need except for the guts (HDD, RAM, drives, video card, processor). All the parts are proprietary, though, so you wont be able to mix and match from other builds. I have worked with one in the past and they are awesome! If the 350watt PSU troubles you, don't let it...shuttle PSU's (or and SFF PSU) are of very high quality.

The PCI-E x1 is definitly crappy right now, but in the future, who knows. You may be happy that is had PCI-E rather than the older standard.

Thanks for all your responses. Can anyone confirm 100% that the 350w PSU will be enough for my setup?

AMD 64 3500+ Winchester
1GB (2x512MB) Corsair XMS TWINX-512LL
XFX GeForce 6600GT PCI-E 128MB GDDR3

I'll most likely be running a DVD-RW, 1 PATA, and 1 SATA drive. Maybe add another SATA drive later.

Is my system okay with that PSU? Also, is it possible to get any higher wattage or is 350w the highest for SFF?

the included powersupply will power anything you can fit in the case.
Here is what it powers in mine:

fx-55
2GB (2x1024 pqi turbo with crappy timings)(I used to have exactly the corsair you're talking about, so no worries with that, either)
2x74 gig raptors
1x180 gig desktar
plextor px-712a
ati x800xl

Modding ps and/or fans in this rig is pointless, and in most cases, counterproductive. It isn't your typical beige box with room for improvement with after market products.

I love my SN25P, the PSU is a beast. Solid rails when power my system would be fun for any PSU.

Athlon 64 X2 4400+ (Oc'ed to 4800+ Level)
2GB OCZ Platinum EL (2-3-2-8)
250GB Hitachi SATA II Hard Drive
BFG 256MB 7800GTX
NEC 3520A

Stick with the stock fan settings, use Speed Fan to modify airflow, and don't modify the PSU in anyway. Also, for first time SFF'ers check out SFF Tech Forums

I orderd my SN25P from NewEgg. Hopefully if NewEgg has been like they have in the past, it'll be here within a few days!

This is my next case/cpu/mobo upgrade ...whevever that will be

So far my shuttle sn41g2 v2 has been like a brick. absolutely rock solid.

Inside I have:

2500+ Barton
1GB Kinston Ram
9800pro
audigy2 zs
1 300GB seagate
1 250GB maxtor
1 fan bay to cool it all off

..all on the 250w PSU

Like I said, it is solid, and given their reputation, the sn25p should rock.

Newegg was the cheapest for me after tax and shipping. They have the $30 rebate for it that's why.

JDog, Your specs are very similar to what I'd like to do

AMD 64x2
2 GB Ram
2 Harddrives Raid
and BFG 7800

Any problems with fitting all that in the box. This would be my first SFF, and the BFG7800 card looks huge!

Thanks for any input,

Dallas

Awsome, thanks for the quick reply Aldoria, Looks like NewEgg's going to get my order Monday morning!

Did you get the Shuttle from NewEgg? Reading reviews, there seems to be older SN25P's with the standard nForce4 chip and newer ones with the Ultra. Can't seem to be able to tell from NewEgg's site. The biggest difference being Sata II support. I realize there's not a whole lot of performance gains now, but the SATA drives are only a few dollars more.

Thanks again

I did order mine from NewEgg and it is the Ultra version. I can tell by unplugging my keyboard and the POST will display nForce 4 Ultra

Hope you enjoy your SN25P!

I'm not sure which one mine is, but I ordered from Newegg as well. There should be a way to tell from your serial number. Shouldn't it?

The quickest way is to just reboot your computer, have your keyboard unplugged and it will do POST. You get all the information about your computer (bios version, chipset series, etc.). Oh and make sure that you have the "Halt on all errors" enabled in your bios, I know some people set it to "Halt on all errors except keyboards"
