Many theaters pull The Interview due to hacker threats

If I were Sony I'd consider just releasing the movie as an officially sponsored, free download for the entire world to consume. They've already lost millions on it anyway, they should thumb their nose at these assholes and just spam the globe with it.

Of course, then they'd essentially be "pirating" their own movie and with word of them working with the RIAA and MPAA to essentially control the internet to prevent such things that would seem a little hypocritical. But, their movie with their money from their company, they can do what they want with it I guess.

PS - Why didn't NK do anything about Team America World Police? Is it because they couldn't hack us with their Intel 386 PCs with monochrome displays back then? Who game them computers and internet and shit?

We'll have to accept the fact that from now on we can only watch what Kim Jong Un allows us to watch, and do whatever hackers demand us to do. This is the new world order, we'll be ruled by a group of teenagers living in their parents' basement armed with a computer and a hacker's manual.

This is fucking bullshit. I guess Japan does negotiate with terrorists? This sets a precedent that could lead to the downfall of the human race. From this point forward, I will never buy another sony product.

Its American Cinemas that are pulling it. You should never go watch a movie at Regal Entertainment, AMC Entertainment, Cinemark, Carmike Cinemas and Cineplex Entertainment for the rest of your life

They should pull the movie from all theatres. Looks crappy.

The thing about this kind of movie is that it's going to deliver on what it is. The last trailer makes it look really strong actually.

They should not be pulling this from theaters. I'm tempted to go see it now just to say flip the bird.

So, Sony sucks at data security and they're a shitty movie company, but this is the theater chains refusing to show the movie because IF (<= big IF) their theaters get attacked and their patrons are injured, it won't be Sony that takes that hit. It will be the theater chains. Even though you pay a shit ton of money for some $0.20 popcorn, most theaters run on pretty thin margins, or so I've heard.

This is what pisses me off though about our country. We've been conditioned now to fear for our lives at the slightest provocation instead of what our forefathers did which was say "Fuck you <insert despotic country name here>, let's do this!" Nope, the average American has slowly been conditioned to hide in their homes and fear the world.

The argument could me made that Sony, irresponsibly, pushed the decision onto the cinema chains who are naturally hesitant to endanger one of their busiest weeks of the year (after a very disappointing fall box office) for an R-rated comedy with limited appeal.

When I first heard of the hacking, I decided to watch the movie on principle alone.

But when Sony changed the ending to appease NK and started backing off all the marketing and distribution, I felt I should not watch the movie on principle.

So now I'm left torn.

No, they changed ending long before any of this. They are only changing distribution because of death threats. Sorry but while we all hate huge corporations, they have to protect themselves from death threats.

What happened to the 'War on Terrorism'? With all the technological equipment, we can't stop a bunch of teenagers operating out of their parents basement making threats? Pretty sad. What happens when these terrorists ask for billions of dollars next? Or perhaps they already have?

If they shorted Sony stock, they already did.

Hacker threats? From North Korea, is that it?

Yes, as I recall, HJI wasn't exactly held in high regard in that movie.

Or they might go after something like Facebook or Twitter. Take those offline or purge their databases and you'll have 500,000 suicides in the first day alone.

I've been boycotting theaters already. Sony could have done something about it.

What an extraordinary turn of events. It does feel like the bad guys have won. I must admit, I will not be seeking this one out on opening night . . . (I probably wouldn't have anyway, as I really didn't love This is the End, and actively disliked Pineapple Express.)
