Aren't there new gestures for 4.3?

Heh, Apple is going to make a huge dent before the RIM Playbook arrives.

Also, no SD slot, agh.

I saw that for the carriers. Wasn't sure if that was WiFi too.

I'm not an Apple guy, and I'd gladly purchase an Android tablet, over the iPad, but the only Android tablet I'd buy is too expensive. Hoping the Motorola Xoom prices will come down to Earth in a few months.

Girlfriend's birthday is coming up, and although I try to avoid Apple products, I'm thinking of getting her an iPad if the Xoom doesn't come down in price. She uses a lot of different WiFi hotspots throughout her normal day, so I'm thinking an iPad would be much more convenient for her.

It all comes down to what she will use it for. Honestly, and especially for a girl, I think you might be hard pressed to find a tablet she gets more use out of.

I'm kinda interested. I didn't really expect the dual core A5 so soon, but I guess it does make sense to keep the iPad competitive.

I missed out on the iPad 1 entirely, but saw some people at work use them so it piqued my curiosity (they don't work my shift, though, so I didn't get any hands-on time). Though I don't know if I wanna fork over $500+ to see if I'd like it or not.

Hrm...anyone have any experience at WalMart and their return policies?

Yeah, exactly. Her C2D Compaq laptop is pretty shitty, and for her daily use (studying, notes, research) the iPad might be best. Especially a 1st gen at $350. Like I said, I'm not an Apple guy, but it's foolish to look elsewhere for a tablet in that price range.

Huh, didn't know that. Thanks for the info. Too bad I'm here at my girlfriends for a while and she can only get things shipped to a PO Box, hence the WalMart question. That's the only retail store aside from one Lowes, an Advance Auto, and a few fast food chains within 100 miles.

4.3 for iPhone GSM only.
iPhone 3G not included.

Don't do that, it's RAM limited. Dual-core CPU and other improvements are worth the premium.

Curious as to what you'd use an SD slot for? 32GB SD cards are like $49 these days. You'd fill up an iPad with 2 shoots

Wait for the monoprice version?

don't expect to see it. remember monoprice had to yank pretty much all apple related products involve the dock connector. there's not a single product involving that.

all iphone/ipod/ipad stuff are cases and screen protectors

But when you take into account how long it takes for her laptop to boot, shutdown, perform any basic functions, it gets frustrating. I might be buying a new SSD for myself soon, and thought about putting my current 80GB SSD in her laptop as that would speed it up a lot, but I'm not sure if I'm gonna do that yet. Her laptop's RAM is already maxed out. It's just the combination of slow mobile CPU, and a slow 5400 RPM drive. It was a $400 laptop her parents got her as a Christmas gift a few years ago. The laptop might have more horsepower on paper, but waiting for it to boot just sucks, especially when you're constantly on the move.

I'm going to really think about it anyway. I'm not 100% sold yet.

You make a point. Well it's easy convience I guess. To be able to blow your pictures up on the go without a laptop is again convenient. Then again, iPad needs to bump up the storage space first.

What was the reason for the pull? They did not pay royalties?

Still nearly a hundred miles away to an actual store And they don't ship to this PO Box (just tried).

You need a UPS store mailbox etc. box or a private one with a regular steet address, however you won't get the postmaster general's watchful eye.

I can ship one out to you if you'd like.

What I would like to see:

1. SD card slot

2. Macbook Air SSD memory stick (aftermarket goes up to 320gb now!) - it'd fit with all that room, the iPad is mostly battery

3. Thunderbolt port (with adapters for HDMI, Displayport, Mini Displayport, DVI, VGA, USB, Firewire, memory card readers)

4. Retina display (it'd need a mega GPU tho)

5. Wacom input (imagine taking notes with a pressure-sensitive stylus on a Retina screen where you can't see the pixels!)

6. Resolution independence (imagine reading text on a 2048 x 1536 screen)

Kinda disappointed that the front camera isn't HD. Oh well, there's always the iPad 3! :awe:

Sorry I was a bit vague. Don't get the old iPad, but do consider the newest.

I don't know about monoprice, but the iPhone video out adapters are proprietary and pricey. Even the few 3rd party ones are licensed by Apple, and no cheaper. So don't expect to find a $5 Chinese knock-off HDMI adapter.

Na, I'll be heading back to my house eventually and all the comforts of an urbanized city. The biggest issue is that she's in the middle of NOWHERE, and her landlords don't let her receive direct shipments (she rents a garage apartment since she can't afford a house). Until the WalMart opened, she only had one choice for a grocery store that price gouged everyone as they knew they were the only choice. If she wanted anything besides food or something she could get at a drug store, she had to travel a looong while up to nearly Delaware to get anything.

Sometimes she can get lucky with Amazon shipping to a PO Box, but it depends on what it is and the alignment of the moons. One week they'll ship a DVD to her PO box, but the next week they won't. Amazon also charges a restocking fee for opened items. At that rate, I might as well head over to WalMart now, grab the 1st gen and play with it for a week or two, and return it when I eventually get back to my place.

Anywho, thanks for the help and cluing me in to the Apple store's lack of a restocking fee.

I would think that the cameras are the same cameras in the iPod Touch rather than the iPhone.

Also, it's interesting to see Apple use the accelerometer to measure how hard you are pushing on the screen.
