Ok I read in either Maxim or FHM in one of the ask anything columns about whether or not sleeping with your hair wet, sleeping with the fan on, and what have you can make you sick -- catch a cold.

They said no, it's a myth. The only way to catch a cold is if you come in contact with someone who has the virus or bacteria.

Can anyone confirm this?

To be totally honest I don't recall. I really don't think it was anyone famous.

Very funny yet interesting read.

The reason you see lots of "complimentory (sp?) subscriptions" NOT FREE is so that they can be included in the distribution #'s (free ones can't) and they get more $$ from ad agencies. Thats why crap like Stuff magazine can keep printing because they stuff the mag full of ads and make money from that and therefore they have no need to sell actual copies.

Yes, I've noticed quite the number of ads in both magazines, Maxim and FHM. I don't care though, it's free and there are hot chicks in them lol.

All the mail-oriented magazines have awesome articles. Heck, I would steal my dad's Playboys when I was younger to check out the chicks and read the Playboy Advisor and celebrity interview. The comics also rock.

Bingo I don't even open them anymore. Just throw them on the lunch table at work. The only free one that I read is Rolling Stone and sometimes Blender and I plan on buying Rolling Stone once my free ones are up.

My neighbor is a Pediatrician; I showed him your thread. He said what you said, from the magazine is true.
But he is a drunk like me, so whatever that is worth.

We drink beer and play Multiplayer games like Tribes 2, COD and RTCW and we have phone headsets, we kick @rse

Well before this I had another question or comment rather. I did not want to waste bandwidth and start another thread so I just edited this one out and bumped it up.

yes, it's true. come on, I learned that from Bill Nye the Science Guy back in elementary school! he was in a meat locker in 80s exercise clothing (short shorts and a tank top, all in nylon), and he was demonstrating how he wasn't getting a cold, but he was getting cold.

excessive cold will weaken your immune system (it takes more than "gee, it's a bit chilly, I'll slap on a jacket" cold to do anything, really), but the common cold is caused by a virus - it's not a bodily reaction to cold.

I believe everything you say is true... but why is it that the flu season is always in the winter time?

The cold is a bug, not simply being cold. So you can not get it from cold, though being cold as mentioned could weaken one's immune system and weaken their ability to fight the cold. BASICALLY though, it's true. It's an old bitchy wife's tale.

the flu follows the cold... in our winter it's here, in our summer its on the other side of the planet... it's called 'drift'
as to why it follows the cold, i threw my notes away and don't feel like looking it up
