From the video it looks like Vick retaliated for the hit the defensive player gave him. If you watch the video you will see that the defensive player drove his knee into Vick's body.

um actually they are one of the least penalized teams in the ACC which is a stat shown almost every game esp. during the FSU games since they got so many penalty yards.

There's no excuse for what the did on the field. That alone should have resulted in a multi-game suspension. However, since he'd already had chronic off the field problems -- as well as the incident of flipping the bird earlier this year -- there's really only one way to punish him. The expulsion is fine, and I'm glad they did it.

The bigger question, however, is why Va. Tech continues to have problems with their players. It wasn't just Vick that the refs and Louisville were steamed about after the game. It is very rare to see an official speak publicly about a whole team, but one of the refs BLASTED the entire Va. Tech team for their first half behavior. This is not an isolated incident. Va. Tech has ALWAYS had a lot of personal fouls called on them, and Beamer needs to clean up the program and instill some discipline, or VT needs to fire him.

Personal fouls != total fouls.

dont be stupid. if you average only 53 yards per game, you can safely assume 3 personal fouls a game if they are all 15 yarders. and throw in a false start and an offsides here or there its safe to say vt on average gets two called on them a game.

Your assumption is not reality.

do you ever watch football??

I watch several hundred games a year, so no.

For you two jokers arguing about penalty yards per game... you are both wrong and you are both right, gg.

for your reference: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/footba...nalties_byPNLTY_YDS_LOST_PER_GAME.html

please sort by the last column "Yds/G"
Virginia Tech averages 108.8 yards lost to penalty, per game for the 2005 REGULAR SEASON (12 games = 11 games + ACC Championship)
the statistics do not include Bowl Games.

That is good for 4TH BEST in the ACC.
It is safe to conclude that VT is typically not penalized very much. In the last two games of the season - FSU and Lousiville, VT committed an above-average # of penalties, and these games were both nationally televised, which probably contributes to the false impression that VT is a penalty-happy team.

VT is listed as 47th Nationally with 53.62 penalty yards lost per game.

I am curious as to the discrepancy..
either way, VT is not one of the worst offending teams when it comes to penalties.

I'm confused too as why SI would have those stats. But to average over 100 penalty yards per game for every team in the conference is just plain ridiculous and can't be right.

I see getting a college education has done nothing for you or your clownish pal. I'm speaking of PERSONAL FOULS and not total penalty yardage or penalities per game.

Are you 12? Not only do I watch football heavily, but I'm also a bit stats person. VT has always been heavy on PF just like FSU and Miami. If you can find something that says they don't commit many personal fouls then fine, but I know what I saw from the FSU, Louisville, Virginia, Auburn, and Miami game this year.
