"or at least make them go crazy sooner than they would have if they had never picked up the pipe"
That is exactly what happened to my nephew.
""The results of this study provide strong evidence that reducing cannabis use could delay or even prevent some cases of psychosis," study author Dr. Matthew Large, of the University of New South Wales, said in a written
statement."
exactly what happened to your nephew?
So you know the exact cause of a mental disorder, completely certain?
And you know for a fact this nephew developed a mental disorder only because of drug consumption?
Do you know for a fact that this individual wasn't at all predisposed to the condition? Perhaps the condition developed at regular pace. Perhaps it was quickened by drug consumption... or perhaps the condition was related to the same traits that may drive people to even want to try drugs, or at the very least make regular use out of them.
I'd like to see a study of genetics that links people who even entertain the idea of drugs, and the people who just never had a desire (this is ignoring those who are just insanely fearful of trying anything due to legal status).
Those individuals who enjoy drugs may just naturally gravitate toward them because they have certain configurations in the brain. Some of those wiring configurations may also spell potential disaster down the road.
There's just so much we don't know, but there have been more honest medical reports that point to many positives for marijuana. Research that leads to more questions than answers, and in fact doesn't provide any important answers in the process, is simply flawed research.
There have been reports with just about every intoxicating chemical out there, claiming, at one point or another, that said chemical can cause psychosis.
Considering all these chemicals act in entirely different ways, use different signaling pathways, interact with different neurotransmitters, they all shouldn't be able to produce the same harmful effect years later.
Yes, messing with neurotransmitter ratios in the long-term isn't a very smart idea... different ratios can be responsible for different problems. But let's consider this: very few humans actually have what might be considered the perfect "normal" ratio of NTs - our genetics are so muddied, our NTs are responsible for some of our personal demons in our personalities.
