You have three completely different vices there. Two that you smoke (one of which makes you high) and then you have alcohol, which you drink. So, you have two that affect your lungs and one that affects your liver.

If you do any of them to excess with any regularity you will probably screw up your life far sooner than you do irreparable damage to your body.

there is a bit of a physical dependency w/ tobacco, but its gone after 2-3 days, the rest is mental, kicking that addiction.

MJ addiction is purely psychological.

People are missing the point with alcohol. It's a poison, and physically damages your brain. Marijuana and tobacco don't.

Is my sarcasm meter broken? For 10 years, possession of alcohol could make you end up in jail...that wasn't the consumers fault. Pretty weak arguement IF you're serious. You can also relate it to the very hot topic of guns, if you outlaw guns...only outlaws will have them. Sending people to jail for MJ offenses is a HUGE burden on our legal system, wasting hundreds of millions a year...that is straight from your taxes.

I don't know why you would assume that. The poll asks about the person consuming it mostly. If people were voting based on harm potentially done to others as a result of you ingesting, alcohol would win by an enormous landslide over tobacco.

I'm actually going on physical damage of each drug. I'm not saying tobacco is safe; it certainly isn't. Problem is, there simply isn't much legitimate data showing how bad it really is, outside of specific conditions related to the individual consuming it. Alcohol has been with us since the days of Mesopotamia, and so I'd guess we have a far more intimate understanding of it.

Nicotine, in concentrated doses, will probably kill you faster than any amount of alcohol. However, you'll never find that dose in a cigarette, in a carton of cigarettes, or maybe even a field of tobacco plants. It's certainly dangerous, but as far as ability to kill tissue and destroy the physical body: alcohol, in concentrations that joe blow can obtain at 7-11, is far more dangerous. (I worked in a lab a few years ago that ordered concentrated nicotine on a regular basis--used in survivability studies--that stuff is certainly vile)

By far alcohol is the most dangerous to yourself and society. It should be illegal. Tobacco should be illegal as well because it is pointless to smoke. Marijuana should be legal. The last I checked, it just makes people giggle and drive 5 mph (dead speed).

I was thinking overall. Alcohol isn't bad if it's a few drinks.

Extreme abuse
1.Alcohol
2.Tobacco
3.Marijuana

Moderate use
1.Tobacco
2.Alcohol
3.Marijuana

Light Use
1. Tobacco
2.Marijuana
3. alcohol

1 shot of equivalent in alcohol a day can be considered light I guess. so around 7 a week.

so when did they deem inhaling smoke of any kind as good for you?

You obviously don't know that you don't need to inhale smoke to get high. If you use a vaporizor there is no actual smoke.

lol, havent heard of that before. when i smoked, it was actual smoking.

Your fathers health problems arise not from the psychoactive ingredients in cannabis (THC and CBDs) but from the byproducts of his chosen delivery method which is combustion.

Smoking anything (whether it's tobacco, cannabis, orange peels or cat poo) on a daily basis for years upon years will obviously have negative effects on your respiratory health.

Vaporizers are a relatively new delivery method but it's true that vaporizing reduces respiratory harm to negligible levels. If your father wants one buy only the best: the Volcano.

However, if your father, with his severe respiratory problems, still wants to enjoy the mind altering effects of cannabis simply eat and/or cook with it (this delivery method is as old as the practice of smoking it). The effect is actually stronger and lasts much longer but takes significantly longer to kick in (30min-90min depending on person/dose etc). Dosage is also harder to control than smoking but once you cook up a few batches of cookies/brownies or whatever you will learn the proper dosage for your desired effect.
You'll need to research the best ways to make it, such as preparing 'cannabutter', because THC and CBDs must be activated by heat (smoking), fat (cooking with oil or butter) or alcohol (use a high proof grain alcohol to extract the cannabinoids from the plant material... the resulting potion is commonly called 'Green Dragon' ...a few drops in your tea will put a large grin on your face)

There are numerous other ways to enjoy the very pleasant effects of cannabis without the health risks of combustion delivery.

Those of us who are responsible cannabis users ask only that the substance be treated
the same way as the more destructive substance alcohol is. Same restrictions etc.

Some interesting info regarding vaporizing:
The vapors from the Volcano® were found to consist overwhelmingly of THC, the major active component in marijuana, whereas the combusted smoke contained over 100 other chemicals, including several polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), carcinogenic toxins that are common in tobacco smoke. The respiratory hazards of marijuana and tobacco smoke are due to toxic byproducts of combustion, not the active ingredients in the plant, known as cannabinoids.
.......

The new study used a gas chromatograph mass spectrometer (GCMS) to examine the gas components of the vapor. .The analysis showed that the Volcano® vapor was remarkably clean, consisting 95% of THC with traces of cannabinol (CBN), another cannabinoid. The remaining 5% consisted of small amounts of three other components: one suspected cannabinoid relative, one suspected PAH, and caryophyllene, a fragrant oil in cannabis and other plants. In contrast over 111 different components appeared in the gas of the combusted smoke, including a half dozen known PAHs. Non-cannabinoids accounted for as much as 88% of the total gas content of the smoke.
