Never meet your heroes... I try to separate the art from the artist and usually purposefully avoid digging too deep about their personal beliefs.
As for the sir and ma'am thing, as a southerner that's kind of a core part of my interaction with people, but I've been able to curb it pretty easily to prevent misgendering people. I'd personally just go with 'sir' for everyone in the service, but rank isn't a problem except in the Navy.

They do this, but still different PFT and CFT tests for males and females. Because most females would fail miserably at the male tests. When I lived in Hollywood and Venice in the mid 70's I would run into no end of folks with "Van was an asshole" stories. Take that as you may.

Well, I thought those were cases of literally 'stealing' guitar riffs. AFAIR, there was some sort of settlement. That's different from adopting a playing style. There are alot of 'bluesy" chords that fit the blues genre, so long as a musician doesn't do a wholesale grab, I don't see the problem.
