I read the Marine's links first and then squinted a bit and looked sideways at the OP link, I think I avoided most of the damage.All I can say is it's about time. For those who didn't read the article and just looked at the headline it isn't just about misgendering. It basically said it to avoid looking for gender characteristics (eyes up here) and to show the same respect from male to female drill sargeants. It's not just to avoid misgendering someone.
