Mario Kart 8 (Switch)

Guys,

I am wondering exactly how the local multiplayer works in MK8. What I mean is, can me and another person play it using ONE console on ONE TV? How would we use the controls? A joycon each?

How well does it work? Fun?

I'm just trying to decide if I should buy this game to play with my GF.

• how would we use the controls, joycon each - yes 1 L or R per person. Also, 4player would use 4x Joycons or any mix of 2-4 multiplayer using L/R joycons or a pro controller.

What if you put the Joycons in the controller... holder... thing? Would you be able to use it like a single controller even in multiplayer mode?

I had a girl over just the other night and we played 4 or 5 100-150CC grandprix's.

It takes a minute or so to get used to 1 joycon each, but it actually worked really well, we were both surprised at how well it worked and felt natural by the end of the first race.

Very fun overall and the framerate was nice and smooth while docked.

Console schemes

One Nintendo Switch
The combos are:

• Four-player local multiplayer, all on one screen.

• 12-player online multiplayer, one to two people locally on one screen.

Two to Eight Nintendo Switches
• Two- to eight-player wireless multiplayer, each on one Switch screen.

Up to 12 Nintendo Switches
• Up to 12 people play via wired LAN connection. Requires each person to use their dock and play on a TV. One to two people can play on a single Nintendo Switch.

Controller schemes

Local Multiplayer (two to four players on one console): Supports single horizontal Joy-Con for each player, two Joy-Cons held vertically for each player, and Switch Pro Controller.

Online Play (one to two players on one console, playing online matches): Supports single horizontal Joy-Con for each player, two vertically held Joy-Cons for each player or Switch Pro Controller.

Wireless Play (one to two players on one console, playing against other Switch owners nearby): Supports single horizontal Joy-Con for each player or Switch Pro Controller for each player. Does not support two Joy-Cons held vertically.

Picked up a Switch on Friday. The family is having a blast with Mario Kart. Crazy just how nice a single joy con works for this game. Need to pick up another pair for some 4 player battles.

I absolutely love the new battle mode. I wish the online part worked better but frankly just the battlemode was worth $60.
