The game is very, very meh. The track and field events are both tiring and extremely easy to beat. The whole wiimote/nunchuk drumming thing was a cute gimmick a year ago, now its tired and stupid to build an entire game around it. I suppose it has to take into account the weak arms of little kiddies, so any reasonable adult who plays it can easily max out their speed at the expense your arm muscles. The hammer throw and javelin are marginallly fun, but only for a little bit. The skeet shooting has NOTHING on wii play, hell, it's more exciting to pick out channels on the wii menu. The fencing is also retarded.
The archery, on the other hand, is just plain brilliant, and is quite the odd diamond in the rough.
I will give them at least some credit for trying to add at least a little something more into each game to make it a test of skill other than blindly drumming the controllers, but that little tweak in each game is also so ridiculously easy to max out that its practically a non-factor.
The presentation is also pretty bad. The graphics are passable. The overscan is HUGE though. You pick an event, then wait far too long for it to load. Click through a cheering screen, a ready screen, drum your controllers, etc. Then after the event is over you get a replay, a cheering screen, two score screens, another replay screen and then a loading screen. After the loading, you get an intro animation, cheering screen, ready screen.....
Its also as tiring clicking (or waiting to be able to click) through all those stupid screens as it is to actually play the game.
4 million copies my ass. This is no Wii sports. Wii sports was a finely crafted, well thought out, nuanced game. This is just a bunch of characters mindllessly thrown together with a bunch of mindless mini games.
