Yep, I don't think Mark Wahlberg tends to "star" in things, Star implies, it's shiney and bright, not dull and duller.

terrible casting decision imo.

drake is an upbeat, tall, every day man with a very sarcastic and witty personality.

mark wahlberg is none of those, and i don't see him playing a character who can pull that off.

ryan renolds would have been a pretty good decision IMO.

I completely agree with that article:
Nathan Fillion would have been perfect for this movie. He already had the sarcastic western cowboy image perfected in Firefly (and Serenity), and he could have easily played a sarcastic but quick-drawing treasure hunter and adventurer.

But, Mark Wahlberg is an able-enough actor. I think he could play the adventurer role well enough, but whether he can bring out that sarcastic charm of Drake... not too sure. I think he is able, but ultimately that depends on the director: good actors can act like shit if the director is weak, but good directors can force good acting out of lesser actors.

Nathan Fillion could have played the part expertly. Everyone I mentioned that to, though, said he was too old to do it.

Mark Wahlberg will make this mediocre or worse.

I'm not a big "Marky-Mark" fan. He's an OK actor in smaller parts, but IMO, just doesn't have what it takes to be the lead.

I'm a fan of Stephen Hunter's books about Bob Lee Swagger. MW played the lead in "Shooter," based on Hunter's first novel, "Point of Impact."
He doesn't look the part, he doesn't act the part, and IMO, is just not believable in the part.
For me, the same can be said about most of the other movies in which he's acted.

I know nothing about the game on which this movie will be based, and I LIKE Pesci and DeNiro...but I suspect this one won't be a big blockbuster hit...like all video game based movies, it will suck.

Haven't played the game (this article is the first time I've heard about it) but I have sworn off video-game-to-movie adaptations. Wahlberg's own Max Payne, where he pretty much sleepwalked through the movie, was probably the tipping point. And I actually like him in most movies.
