Stock actually rose after this article was written, possibly best ever day for AMD stock in a single trading session! Q1 earnings call beat analysts predictions and AMD has actually reversed previous projections and is now forecasting revenue growth for 2016 despite flagging PC market.

In any market downturn, if you are a small player you have a huge opportunity. I actually work in Oil & Gas and while most companies are struggling mine is small enough to actually remain growing quarter over quarter, it looks like AMD is setting themselves up to achieve the same with Polaris, Zen, and custom SoC/IP deals!

I was annoying the hell out of my family to buy at 1.93 in February, only my step dad listened to me ().

This is a $12 stock by end of summer 2017. Get in while you can.

I hope it keeps climbing back to like it's 1999 all over again. So we can party like its...

Note that they are still losing money every quarter in all this, so keep a clear head. That said it's hard to imagine any case where it could be worse for their failing CPU business. I don't even think it's possible for Zen to fail so badly that it still won't be a massive improvement over Bulldozer. I can't see a single downside other than another Globalfoundries failure.

I am hopeful for AMD, there is a lot of potential of course, but who knows how everything will shake out. The market seems to be in a weird transition stage. But in the meantime, my shares are up almost 110% since I purchased them less than three months ago. Makes me wish I had invested a few thousand more.

Why? Fanboy?

I own AMD stock and have an Intel rig. Both companies can be great...

Why? Cause investor?

It seems that when you start investing into something you lose an overall perspective. AMD needs Intel's stock to drop.

Man I really hope Zen is a big deal. AMD was so awesome for price to performance until Bulldozer, especially in the Athlon XP days.

I've been telling the doom mongers AMD will be just fine, they had to ride out Faildozer and all the subsequent iterations. When a major architecture fails, it's a few years of suffering due to lacking a new architecture.

They went the right route with Semi-Customs to keep them afloat and now it's paying off as they get market dominance in consoles, with a new uarch of Zen around the corner, AMD as a CPU company, should finally have a good CPU again.

Even if GF fails, AMD has Samsung as an option, the node is the same, compatible on both foundries.

The only thing that can go wrong, is if Zen is crap.

Or if AMD ceases to have the DX12 advantage ...

Console wins are good for keeping AMD afloat but they're not good enough for AMD to be profitable hence their reliance on the recent console effect taking place ...

Why aren't they profitable? You see the big lost occur in the Computing division. AMD is a CPU company without a competitive CPU architectures. That's been their biggest problem.

Semi-Custom is their profitable division, and that's in the low margins of PS4/Xbone. I suspect the next-gen APU will have higher margins.

Nintendo is reported to say the NX will sell at a loss. That says AMD isn't budging down on prices.

Zen will hardly be competitive with Skylake where it matters most, single threaded performance and I expect Zen to be slightly below Haswell's IPC ...

When Zen comes who's going to purchase their CPUs ? It's certainly not going to be Intel customers who have purchased any of their K processors or any quad core Haswell processor either ...

With Zen, AMD once again has no choice but to get scraps from Intel ...

The reason why their semi-custom business is successful is because they have good GPU IPs, we see no console manufacturer is beefing up on AMD's CPU IPs ...

Nintendo selling at a loss ? That's wishful thinking going by their history of quarterly reports and the idea that Nintendo are been pushed by AMD is laughable since Nintendo is the bigger company out of the two ...

Is this the time the stars align for amd with a decent cpu architecture and great gpu and being able to combine them in a high performance semi custom soc for consoles?

I wonder if any of the consoles will be zen based.

Are you saying everyone has a Skylake K?

8 Core, 16 Thread Zen, 5960K performance, not an attractive upgrade for people on Lynnfield, Sandy or Ivy?

Intel is making record margins, AMD can afford to undercut them and be a viable option for upgrades or new rig builders.

So much doom & gloom, you wait and see. I'll need an upgrade from my Ivy Bridge by the time Zen arrives, if it's got 40% IPC gains from Excavator and can hit 4Ghz, it will be my go-to CPU for sure.

Consoles don't need high perf CPU when their API has lower CPU overhead and well threaded. Sony's documents to devs with the leak specs have it as Jaguar 8 core at 2.1ghz from 1.6ghz.

The only market that would benefit from high IPC APU of Zen + Polaris would be HPC, Servers and Enthusiast gamers who want mITX rigs.

Low/midrange gaming laptops with Polaris 11, Zen and freesync. That sounds fantastic, especially if it eventually comes in APU form when using HBM becomes viable. I wouldn't be too interested if it's a traditional shared memory APU. G-sync laptops are great, but freesync has been excellent at bringing that variable refresh rate to people on tighter budgets.

This happened in December and the stock fell back down. Pure market speculation.

They lost a ton of money and have not even touched their debt. They are on the verge of bankruptcy
