I must be the only one who doesn't mind a lack of action from time to time.
These are character stories, after all, and it is often what occurs in the slow moments that show and/or define the character and growth.
And even with 13 episodes and some thinking it was too stretched, some characters didn't receive enough time to develop.
That's what I loved about Jessica Jones - even the smallest supporting characters received a heck of a lot of character development, and the world felt more connected for that reason. It gave weight to Jessica's indifference, made you feel that she caused characters to experience sorrow. I loved every minute of Jessica Jones, but I can understand why others would not.
And I loved every minute of Daredevil, and am absolutely stoked to watch Season 2. I can't wait to see how they develop Elektra in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and especially think Frank Castle will be a terrific foil to Daredevil's growth.
I'm the same, and there was a lot that I liked about Jessica Jones--in the end I think that season is still better than Daredevil season 1.
But it was very plodding. So much filler and time devoted to secondary and tertiary characters that felt very redundant in the end, next to the rather hamfisted plotting to stretch the bungled operation to take down Kilgrave in several more episodes than was ever needed.
I was thoroughly enjoying Jessica Jones up until about episode 8, where the weight of the swampy plotting was just too much to bear. I watched those first 8 in maybe 3 days, over a weekend. Then it was maybe the next week to finish the next 3 episodes, then about a month later to finish the last 2.
As with Daredevil, same thing. Too much redundancy, especially with Kingpin and his life story. I thought the action in Daredevil was about where it needed to be and it was actually very well-done. Something you don't see from contemporary action flicks.
