Maryland Red Light Cameras

I was driving home from business travel around 11:30pm when I got my picture taken by one of the cameras. I am not a Maryland resident and after some research I found out if you don?t pay the $75 fine you may not be able to register your vehicle. So the question is should I pay it?

In Virginia we rejected the traffic camera idea.

I did. Yellow light turned red the instant before I crossed the line. What the idiots fail to take into account is that light is at the bottom of a hill and it would not have been safe for me to stop.

Oh yeah i got busted on one...It was 75 bucks and I had NY plates at the time. And of course it was when I was trying to move down an register my car in MD. The rule in MD is that if youhave any outstanding tickets you ahve to pay them before you can register.

Ticket from Maryland shouldn't have any effect on registering your car in Virginia.

Doesn't mean you shouldn't pay it though.

I'm suprised more people don't vandalise these things. The other day down here someone busted the flash on one, and turned the second flash around.. They had a problem with timing on some of the units, it would take a picture as soon as the light turned yellow. They just recently switched contracts, since late last summer they wern't even working.. just sitting there collecting dust..

I don't like them out in the country, but in Baltimore they could definately use them.

I figure it's just easier to pay the fine.

Also, it's the right thing to do if you actually ran the red light (as opposed to being caught because the thing wasn't timed properly).

They probably took that into account, and in fact was probably the reason they put it there.

I think these revenue generating methods are unfair.

I would agree if they just gave out points for traffic violations and people lost their licenses for driving poorly, but the moment they turn it into a profit-generating scheme, there is much room for corruption. Once they get addicted to that added revenue, why stop there? Why not raise the fines higher and higher?

When the agency making the profit is the same agency holding the gun, I see a conflict of interest there.

I'm guessing they put a lower amount so less people will contest the ticket.
