Yes I am a Mass(hole). But not too bad of one But I did get a $219 speeding ticket today on Rt 95 while driving through that glorious state. The trooper said if I pay it, no points will be added to my insurance. Is this accurate? How would my auto insurance in the state of MA handle this? What if I just don't pay it at all, then what insurance wise.

Depends on whether the computers are linked.
I would expect that those two states being right next to each other do communicate.

My guess is cop is b.s.'ing you.

I wonder if the cop knows there is something wrong with the ticket that might get you off.

I once fought a speeding ticket and the cop gave his testimony and then says the cruiser went in for tranny repairs that night. Judge dismissed it immediately.

Scrutinize the ticket closely. And definitely fight it.

Not going to fight it. Its an airtight case, as I was...well speeding. If I wanted to fight it, then I'd need to drive to the middle of nowhere CT, take a day off work to fight a ticket that I could never win.

Huh? if your caught on radar the only two possibilities are his gun was on someone else or it was not calibrated within the time frame the manufacturer says it needs to be, other than that you will be found guilty, pay the ticket, AND extra court costs. I fail to see any reason an LEO's transmission needing repair having anything to do with beating a speeding ticket, do tell...

I was told the same thing when I got a speeding ticket in VT. I had a CT license at the time. When my insurance was renewed there was no boost in the premium.

Call your insurance agent and ask him/her that hypothetical question. It's not a matter of law but rather of insurance company practice.

Local courts have a lot of leeway in how they handle tickets. I've heard of offers like this one before, and it's clearly intended to get drivers to pay up.

The following is not based on any specific legal knowledge, but just on 35 years of driving in various jurisdictions. Local courts can do a lot with a speeding ticket. The prosecutor can adjust the ticket down, for one example. They can also fine you but not put the conviction through to the state DMV.

That's for in-state issues. When you're caught in another state what happens is that it gets reported to that state's DMV. Eventually they will forward the information to your own state's DMV, and your insurance carrier would get their hands on it that way. It used to take years in some cases for the reports to cross state lines (and some never did), but perhaps it is faster in the age of the intarweb.

You young'uns. He paced me.

And, yes, you don't know whether he knows something about his radar gun that day.

Its just suspicious that he gave the info he did. Usually cops like the OT they get by going to court.

this does not surprise me, massachusetts gets the prize for state with the most retarded drivers, and boston gets the same prize for cities.

74 in a 55? Man, you'd never get pulled over for going 74 on the freeways here. Hell, 80 is pretty much the norm... if traffic is moving of course.

Cops will tell you all kinds of lies. Have an attorney deal with it.

I sometimes feel bad for all of you massholes. Everybody wants to write you a ticket. I swear on my commute in the summer, the ratio of Massholes to Mainers pulled over is 3:1. And that's if you make it through NH to get here.

As someone who vacations twice a year in San Diego, usually driving between downtown and Carlsbad, I suggest that being able to do 80 on I-5 is more of a theoretical possibility than anything that actually happens

In all seriousness, though, 80 is pretty much the flow of traffic outside of rush hour. You guys make me feel like I'm back in New Jersey.

I was cruise-locked at 75 in 65 on I-90, middle of nowhere in western NY en route to Niagara Falls.

This asshole trooper pulls me over and gave me a $350 ticket.

Assfvck trash.

The trooper is talking out of his ass.

The only way you won't get points on your license is if the judge tears the ticket up entirely. Anything short of complete dismissal and the insurance company will hit you.

No driving school (do not know if this is an option or not)? Many states will dismiss the offense from your "public" driving record (i.e. for insurance companies, etc) if you complete driving school and have ZERO points on your license (although I'm not sure if doing 19 over qualifies).

I called Allstate on this very issue last year and they said that it was a random check. Said that I may or may not be found out depending if I was randomly selected to have my record pulled. FWIW.
