Thanks - picked one up. Am I going to have a hard time following this if I never played the first game?
No, but:
1) The first game is fantastic and adds a lot of significance to the second game.
2) The first game is really cheap these days, and its a bargain.
3) There is a save game import feature from ME1 to ME2, that affects a dozen or so MAJOR MAJOR plot points, and a few hundred minor/trivial points in the second game. This is used to brilliant emotional and narrative enhancement. Having your ME1 decisions affect ME2 adds a lot of charm to the experience, so I'd recommend a playthrough of 1 to get the full appreciation of 2.
when you get to see how your decisions from 1 carry over to 2, it'll make you want to replay 1, just so you can replay 2 with a different universe. At least I do, and I've played ME1 through several times.
