Are the dlc for mass effect 3 any good? It is on sale for $10; but I've mostly been holding off for a complete version with dlc. Then again if the dlc's suck maybe I should just bite on the game and skip the wait

So how have the dlc been?

I got ME3 CE version when it came out, there are plenty of free DLC content for ME3 MP and also the extended ending free DLC,personally if I was you would just buy it now for $10 and download all the free DLC content.

ME3 MP is quite fun too and the MP free DLC is good ,plenty of classes you can play, lots of maps, weapons etc...and store to buy new stuff, you get free credits in Multiplay where you can use those credits for gear/ weapons/mods in Store etc....

Here is one free DLC info(Retaliation) for multiplay(plenty more DLC for MP),http://blog.bioware.com/2012/10/04/mass-effect-3-retaliation-multiplayer-dlc/

I got the "Digital Deluxe" which included the "From Ashes" DLC. The mission itself was pretty generic, but the squadmate is playable almost immediately (after only the first or second major mission I think) and has a lot of really interesting dialogue available, particularly with Liara and Shepard. Depends if you care about that or not, I think he added a lot to the game.

I plan on picking up Leviathan and Omega. I personally really enjoyed most of the ME2 DLC as well, particularly Shadow Broker and Overlord.

It's a great game and the multiplayer is just as good. I had already run through the game a few times before most of the DLC came out. Picked a couple DLC up for that 5-10 dollar range and lost the drive to replay single player again.
515+ hours into multiplayer and a couple weeks of play on single player.

I have not played any of the dlc. To be honest, I was so angry and disappointed at the ending of the main game that I swore to never play anything related to Mass Effect again. But some people were able to ignore or accept the ending and enjoy the game. Just depends on whether you are in it for the gameplay or an epic conclusion to the trilogy (which I was, and I was sorely disappointed) I guess.

Have you played the first two games? If not, buy the "Mass Effect Trilogy" set including all three games; you'll want to play the first two games because of the story.

If you've already played the first two, go ahead and buy 3. Mass Effect 2 never saw a complete version with all its DLC, so ME3 probably won't either. Be sure to get the "digital deluxe" edition which includes the "From Ashes" squad member DLC. Also, be sure to download the free "extended cut" DLC which significantly changes the ending to address complaints players had with it. As for the other DLC, Leviathan is fairly good and actually does its own part to fix some problems with the ending (most notably, it sets up a plot point so it's not so out of the blue anymore). I'm holding off on Omega, so I can't speak for it.

I've played the first two games; but not any of the dlc for the second game (as they are too expensive by themselves and not seen a bundle).

Got ME3 for Christmas and am enjoying it, so i picked up the "From Ashes" and "Leviathan" DLC. "From Ashes" adds another crewmember, and i believe included a single planet mission. The mission map was interesting, but quite short. Most of this content I assume is the new crewmember.

Going thru Leviathan now, and am on the third mission for that. Both are quite solid and the missions and maps are really detailed - more so than the ME3 primary story arc it seems to me.

Holding off on "Omega" but i plan to get that eventually, before i finish the main game.

There wont be any bundles for the DLC. Hell the Bioware store (only place to buy the DLC) never even does sales. They didn't even bother sticking the DLC for the games in the Trilogy pack they released either.

The only recent bioware game that included all the DLC was Dragon Age Origin. I don't think they'll release a ME3 complete edition especially since they released the trilogy. Even the trilogy is missing some of the DLC IIRC. I'd recommend just picking up ME3 for the $10. The game is really good but it has a horrible ending that really kills any desire to play through the game again. If it had more replay value and the DLC's were good I'd recommend picking them up since they'd be played multiple times. As it is I'd highly recommend the game for $10 but skip all the DLC since I doubt you'll play through more than once.

Just did Leviathan last night. Personally I found it hugely enjoyable, but on the other hand there's not much in it that you can't really get off the wiki either as the new content is largely lore/history related, the missions themselves are pretty generic and I finished in just a few hours. The new areas you explore are well done though, cool kind of 'haunting'/desolate atmosphere, reminded me of the planet from Jacob's loyalty quest in ME2.

Looking forward to playing Omega.

You could be waiting quite a while for a DLC complete release of Mass Effect 3. EA will sit on that content in DLC form for years if past Mass Effect games are any indication. It wasn't until the trilogy pack that they included both DLC add-ons for the original.

From Ashes is essential IMO, the mission is deep with Prothean backstory, and do it earlier than later, because taking the character that comes with that mission on other missions can reveal information and story you wouldn't get otherwise.

Leviathan is also huge, it expands on the story in a way that makes the ending infinitely more satisfying, with less head scratching and more understanding of why what happens occurs. It's content that should have been in the base game, and it would have probably negated a lot of the complaints people had when Mass Effect 3 first shipped.

Omega is pretty throw away. It's interesting to go back to that planet and some of the characters you interact with are pretty interesting, but it doesn't really have any impact on the game as a whole.

I got the deluxe edition with "from ashes" and have not bought any other DLC to date. I am waiting for them to finish slowly releasing DLC and for a sale by then I will be ready for another playthrough anyway and will have a decent amount of new content with the old.

I agree with everything, except the bold part.

Omega is not a planet, it's a gradually-mined asteroid turned space station.

Yeah, sorry I just had to do it.

Played Omega last night, and while enjoyable, it didn't have the same intensity to it without some sort of reaper/prothean element to it, though you do fight reaper troops.

I did like seeing how your actions could influence Aria, and meeting Nyreen was very cool. It's a shame Omega doesn't become accessible though, having somewhere to 'just go' other than the Citadel was one of the things I missed in ME3.

So skip omega and buy levithan? For mass effect 2 which dlc are worth purchasing? I've decided to replay 1 and 2 before playing 3 (which I did purchase).

I never played the DLCs, but ME3 was the best game I've played this year (i mean last year). Particularly if you're already warned that the end may be a let-down (not everybody kills themselves in horror at the end, though; I thought it was not the worst thing ever) the rest of the game is damned awesome, and longer than ME2 also. It's honestly just damned good, makes me want to play it again.

IMO the only two DLCs you need for ME3 is "From the Ashes" and the one where they redo the ending. Everything else didnt really add anything to the story and I was a die hard lore fan of ME.

Leviathan does add to the story.

Yeah it does. Leviathan is a HUGE part of the story IMO, crazy that most people will play this game without ever seeing what it brings to the story.

Yeah well that's not people's fault anyway, it's a DLC, and it's not free.

It should have been part of the game from day one if it was that important to start with (and it is). The same applies with From Ashes. At least there's other ways to learn about what you'd be missing by not buying the DLCs though, namely YouTube, or to some extent the Mass Effect Wiki (not as good as YouTube footage of the DLCs though, but better than nothing, and free).

I'd change your sentence from "crazy that most people will play this game without ever seeing what it brings to the story", to "crazy that BioWare/EA didn't delay the game for a few extra months to implement very important and relevant story-related content to the final game". The thing is, the devs or the publishers clearly don't care if the consumers don't get the "whole story picture" by not buying the DLCs in question, as long as you buy the basic game your job as the consumer that you are is done, and nothing else from you is necessary, nor is anything else from the devs and publisher necessary either. The rest is just "extra", however "important to the story" it may be.

I can't wait to see how many story-related "DLCs" Mass Effect 4 will have.

I was a huge fan of ME2 so I picked them all up (minus the weapons packs). The only must have DLC is the Lair of the Shadowbroker. It's the best of them and is important to the plot (especially for Liara). Overlord is the second best but has very little to do with the overall story. The cerberus network isn't worth it for the price; Zaeed and his mission are alright but you don't really need him. Kasumi - Stolen Memory is decent but superfolous - you don't need her either. Arrival is the bridge between 2 and 3 but it's rather mediocre and you only play as Shepard.

With no discounts for the DLC from bioware I could only recommend Shadowbroker. For the rest you can just use youtube and the ME wiki to find out what happens.

I decided to pas on the DLC; they are just silly expensive for such small amount of content. The Shadowbroker and Levitan are the only two I would consider (after a bit of 'research' - which agress with the comments on this forum) but it would be $25 for the pair for approx 3 hour of content. Btw Zaeed was a bonus with my copy of ME-2; it was a plain version (not delux or ce) but for some reason it was included (I forget the details).

Hum. Maybe I'm being too cheap but $25 seems excessive to me.

This is why I have only ever bought DLC for Fallout 3. I recently played Deus Ex Human Revolution. Game is $16 now. Guess how much the DLC is? $15. lol not happening.
