I just cannot play through ME1 anymore. Between the horrendous inventory system, bad combat and blurry outdated graphics I cannot stand it.

The poor game controls and inventory have also made me not want to play through it a 3rd time. It has a great story, but the engine has not aged well at all.

On some planet, all my teammates are without helmet.. but not me..

There should be an option in the "Gameplay Settings" screen. Scroll down to "Ryder's Helmet" and "Teammate's Helmet" and set it to how you want. I like using "As Equipped".

Yea i figured it would be somewhere.. im just running off defaults here..and to be honest its nothing compared to the 'special' animations... I can still ignore those things and enjoy the story...almost.. any sense of romance in this episode is dead.. I found the first female im supposed to romance.. but as luck would have it she is retarded too... it wouldnt be legal. Or would it be if im retarded too? would we get doubly retarded kids? not sure andromeda is ready for that .

The writing in this is ranges from shockingly cringeworthy millennial American colloquialism to average plotting. Forget the animations the writers should be fired. The options for choosing responses are also wack. CD Projekt would elevate this to another level; still for $50 its just about passable. On my i5 7600 non K and Strix 1070 OC the game defaulted to everything ultra minus shadows and lighting at High and HBAO, not HBAO full. Somehow the original trilogy is better written.

Its a buy from me. Over all the story and submersion checks out. Way better than DAI.

Spoiler alert!
Leaving Eos, cause done, so get to the map, oh goodie an anomaly, at Eos .. going back, but cant go nowhere cause rad level3 .. wtf ?

edit2 : And why cant I examine the map without *actually* flying there?

edit3: There seems to be many broken side quests and general glitches. I dies on Eos, and upon resuming there was a character that was supposed to give me some keys, she appears goes half sentence and then ninja style dissapears without the smoke.. Had to reload earlier checkpoint to propgress beyond that. Moving on, power shortages at Hyperion, small side mission im sure, accept ill help, scan everything nearby and nothing ... cant pull the journal up either aaand unable to re-negotiate the 'quest' at 'vendor'.. This is so unpolished.. still fun though.

Too bad they don't remake it in Frostbite like Valve did with Half-life.

MEA got to be the most frustrating game control wise, anybody tried jumping in the hexagon room on that jungle planet Havarl, damn hard with mouse and keyboard trying to get to the top, I ended up going back to start at ground floor if you don't get it right with jumps and position, with no quicksave you just got to keep trying again and again to make your way up to the top, whoever designed these controls like this should be shot.

I have spent 30 mins now trying to get back up, being in a dark area in a tight space does not help, lights are crap, pure frustration at this time.

If I wanted a jumping platform game I could of got some classics from the 80s on the Commodore Amiga .

I'm a few hours into it. oof. I'd probably refund it if I weren't past Origin's grace period.

The awful script writing, voice acting (other than the guy who voiced Alec Ryder), and yes the facial animations/eye movements just completely take me out of this game. There's no politically correct way to say it, but it's seriously like they are a crew of uhh people with some cognitive issues. Or it's like watching a Saturday morning cartoon meant for young kids.

Replayed ME 1-3 recently and while they each had their problems and frustrations (particularly the first one), so far I'd say they are miles ahead of this experience.

I'm enjoying replaying ME 1 again so far, I just rescued Liara from the Prothean ruins. Sure the combat is clunky and the inventory system is awkward, but the story, art design and voice acting are all good.

Isn't too shabby:

And hammers hardware.

However, once the game opens up the scale is amazing. You have 5 planets to turn "golden", a stack of armor and weapons to go through plus research and dev for more armor and weapons (with research across three species/civilizations and multiple tiers), stuff to collect, random side quests (movie night anyone?), more meaty side quests, and the main plot. The rough total of around 100 hours for most of the completion looks to be fairly accurate. Still the mechanics are there but after 5 years I expected less tropes and more polish. I suppose the cornerstone of sci-fi is that old mysterious ultra powerful species that has vanished (of course) and some nasty enemies that want it all for themselves, but why haven't these sorts of games grown up? Why not make a film noir esque title in the Mass Effect series where you play a tired old turian drunk with an asari femme fatale? Or a washed up bum like Red Dwarf? The whole BIG BAD SAVE US plot device is just old and tired.

Ugh, ya, forbid yourself if you fill it. Trying to get rid of your junk was a Mini game in itself.

wait...no quicksave? this is PC goddamit! just lost more points in my book. not gonna buy anytime soon.

also, i think i finally understand why all the characters are smiling all the time...it's because the Actors in the motion capture session couldn't keep a straight face while reading through the scripts

There is quicksave, during certain missions the quicksaves are disabled and it uses checkpoints.

There's definitely a Team America vibe to some of the dialogue. The squadmate Kora seems to be the worst offender, every time she's on screen in a dialogue sequence I expect a Matt Damon doll to suddenly appear out of nowhere.

Several hours in so far. I was able to make a girl that didn't suck on my second attempt and I have noticed zero wacked out animations so far no "special" smiles or anything.

I saw a theory someone had about RAM affecting animations. I don't know if anyone has done a better analysis but initial results showed people with 8GB of RAM had many more problems with animations than those with 12 or 16GB. I have noticed the game using up to almost 13GB so far.

I do hate the pointless loot though. Stuff you pick up that is only useful to sell. Just hand wave a micro dissasembler into the game and give me the credits directly.

The Nexus reminds me of the Citadel from ME1 as there are a lot of quests that involve running around the different sections and just being annoying in general.

Found another annoying bug , can't speak to one guy I freed from a cage, icon is there(quest says to speak to him) but he is invisible so no interaction is possible, going to try a reload, also some reloads take ages ie some are from seconds to 5 mins and I'm talking about the same save.

The invisible bug is annoying since I have had it in both combat and non combat and I'm not talking about those enemies that can go invisible for a brief time.

Confirmed it is a nasty bug,

Niilj stuck in scenery bug
Sadly, some people are experiencing a bug near the end, which prevents them from finishing the quest. If you see Niilj stuck in his cage after you’ve opened it, there’s a good chance you won’t be able to talk to him. He should leave the cage and go to another spot, but for some reason, he gets stuck in the scenery. He can’t move, and you can’t interact with him.

Luckily, there’s an easy fix. Simply load an earlier save and repeat the quest. If you don’t have one, you might be in trouble. Try to leave the planet and return. When the level reloads, Niilj should end up in the correct place.

It's an interesting theory, but doesn't hold true in my case. I'm throwing a lot of hardware at it and still have awkward animations. If an NVMe drive feeding 32GB of DDR4 and a 1080Ti is not enough, well then I give up.

Just did that one, no problems. The only bug I have encountered so far was a hang during a scene transition.

Yeah, unless your RAM is somehow not being utilized then power isn't an issue for you.

All I know is that I have not had any wonky issues with the animation. Sure it isn't Witcher level animation and is a bit flat but no obvious hiccups here.

The animations are always going to be awkward no matter what, there's no getting around that issue. But as far as outright glitches are concerned, that's a different matter. Reading NeoGaf, it definitely seems that it's mostly people with 8GB of RAM that are having the most problems, and not just with animations, but with performance loss and crashes as well.
