Here's the game wiki page on enabling the console: http://masseffect.wikia.com/wiki/PC_Cheats

Once you are in the console, type in "stat fps" and the frame per second will be shown in real time on the screen.

The port does seem pretty good. Only annoying thing I have seen so far is how long it takes to "alt-tab" back into the game on 8800 cards.

I really hope that issue a patch or two for this. The inventory system needs to be overhauled, and there are a plethora of small, minor bugs that are an annoyance.

Edit - I'd also like to see them add the ability to talk to your party members in the field, like previous Bioware RPGs. But that may mean ME2 will be even more FPS-like.

Not able to see party members' equipment when they are not with you while in a store is pretty damn annoying. Not to mention we can't organize our inventory in some way while we are selling. What the hell were they thinking? Even Final Fantasy II for SNES back in 1990 had these features.

What's the deal with communication in this game? I did the assignment where you have to find the lost military personnel for that admiral. Once you find the people you have to go all the way back to the Citadel just to tell the admiral what you found. Haven't these people heard of subspace communication?

You think thats bad? In the Noveria mission, I had to run all the way back
from the research labs to the Normandy to switch squad members because I
didn't have someone with a high enough electronics or decryption skill to
progress. FYI, bring someone who's really good at one or the other, you'll
need them.

There are a few things that really keep Mass Effect from being a truly great
game.

1) The combat.

Manual, twitch combat has no place in an RPG. Concentrate on the story and
character development.

2) The Inventory/shop system

It blows, plain and simple. If the PC version is improved over the Xbox
version, which I never played, then its a wonder Xbox players could even get
past the first few missions. No stacking, no sorting, limited comparing of
item stats, and a 150 item limit. I had to turn many decent weapon upgrades
into omni-gel to make room mid mission.

3) The exosolar plants and systems

Why do so many worlds look identical, and what does Joke always see fit to
drop you in the middle of a mountain range? The game has many planets to
visit, but they all tend to blur together because they are so similar. Some of
them had fantastic visuals though, such as the planet with the red giant/blue
giant binary system. Planet was dull as hell, but looking at the sky was
certainly cool.

4. Bugs

Nothing serious, but enough to annoy. Several times, I clicked Use on a
elevator only to have my squad freeze in the elevator and not move. I couldn't
move from the elevator, couldn't quick save, nothing. I had to exit and reload
from my last save.

5. Talking to squad members

Is there a reason I can't talk to my squad members in the field? I mean, I can
understand not having a conversation in a fire fight, but what about when I'm
walking around Citadel? Yeesh, does all conversation have to take place in the
bowels of the ship? Some characters seemed to have only partially fleshed out
back stories, I would have preferred something more indepth.

6. Epilogue?

My male Vanguard character completed the romance with Ashley, and then that
was it. The game 'ends' with him swearing he'll find a way to stop the
Reapers, and then he walks off into the 'sunset'. So what happened to his
lover?

7. Speaking of romances . . .

That is the scene that caused so much controversy!? WTF! You see a heavily
shaded silhouette of a female buttocks and some bare shoulders, along with
some slightly suggestive dialogue. Honestly, it barely qualified as PG-13. And
ME carries an M rating. Are Americans really that prudish, or just plain
stupid?

Maybe the romances between a female Shepard and Liara are more risque?

8. Length

The game is too short. I bought the game on Thursday, started playing it
Friday morning, beat it late Sunday afternoon. There's not a chance in hell
you could beat BG2 or Torment in less than 3 days, unless you skipped every
side quest and short cutted through the major ones.

9 Speaking of quests . . .
What is the point of the collection quests? Do they have a point, some benefit
I didn't see? I only completed one of them, and that was by chance. And there
didn't seem to be any benefit to completing it.

10. Graphics

They are extremely good, especially when you crank the resolution up and
disable that god aweful film grain. So in this game of top notch visuals,
where characters models lip synch to their dialogue, facial expressions that
change with their mood, its even optimized fairly well, so why do the
characters self shadows look like they were finger painted by a retarded
child?

I've ranted enough now.

Edit - No, I haven't.

11. More on Party members

The entire game, the only party member that had his own side quest was Garrus. Sure, Liara's mother was one of the games villains, but that doesn't count. Every party member should have their own side quest to build commraderie and lengthen the game with quality content. Down loadable content should address this major short coming.

I just completed that mission too! I am taking it slowly, trying to savor it for as long as possible. Lucky for me I had some more things to do on the Citadel so I didn't come back just for the Admiral.

Maybe I am an idiot but do you have to be the 'Tech Specialist' Class in order to get access to talents like Electronics and Decryption? I am playing as an Adept first try (enjoying it alot) so does that mean I have to select members in my party with a high Tech specialization in order to Decrypt certain things? Because sometimes it says 'Skill level too low' and I think I might be missing out on extra missions/ plot.

Just one person in your squad needs to have the skills.

Just be careful with blind exploration, I'm pretty sure that if you finish a quest but did not have it in your log, you don't get XP for completion. Not 100% sure on this...but I'm positive I didn't get XP on Wrex's quest. Maybe for killing the guy, but not for turning it in and completing it in log.

And ya, the not having the proper level of electronics/decryption is a PITA, I actually had Liara for this on my first playthrough but didn't realize you had to manually turn off auto-level in options so she was a few points short of max for electronics for most of the game.....

First time is a trial run to see what bugs problems I find ,besides by the 2nd time I play it I should have a nice 4850 card to run at max settings .

Sign me up for one "too short"
I did a fair amount of side questing on my first play, and ended up a little over 22 hours.
I'm running through it again as a Renegade now, and going to see if I can get the Completionist Achievement.

I am more than halfway through, but I think next go round I'll either do Soldier or Adept (because assault rifles and Biotics are cool).

I just finished the game with an infiltrator, which was awesome. By the end game, my pistol was doing the same damage that my sniper rifle was. I think I'm going to load an older save and finish exploring the universe though, try to get the lvl 60 achievement.

I am infiltrator as well. I hardly use my sniper rifle though. And yeah, the pistol becomes really effective.

Is there a difference in the game depending on whether you go Paragon or Renegade? Seems like an 'evil' character should be able to join Saren and condemn humanity to save his own skin. Or somehow manipulate Sovereign to his own ends?

I'm going through as an Adept now, and it's cool, but it kinda sucks that you don't get Adrenaline Burst. I suppose that could have been a little overpowering.
You also start out untrained with any weapon, it's at least a few levels before you can put any points into Pistols.

Not from my understanding of it
It appears the main ending is mostly the same with minor differences--but the choices will supposedly effect the next game. I wonder how far they're going with that.

Oh, and 30k posts for me
I was going to think of something special to post, but I forgot.

Yeah, I changed my mind. I'd either do Vanguard or Soldier.

I did Vanguard on my first run, and I think it was a good mix. Once you get the final Marksman ability for Pistol, I'm not sure it's possible to overheat
Did anybody else pretty much completely ignore shotguns?

Figures.

I already have final marksman ability for pistol and yeah its pretty hard to overheat with that enabled. You can do some serious damage as well. I have mostly ignored shotguns. I find its just simpler to use the pistol...same goes for the sniper rifle.

I didn't use the pistol at all till I got the Spectre Elite one... but man, that thing was nuts.

I just started a new char, and I'm going the fighter class so I can play with the Assault Rifle.

Ooo, Spectre Elite pistol. When does one acquire that?

And yes, the Assault rifles are what I want to train with. They're fun.

I'm not sure actually. One of the merchants just had a whole set of Spectre weapons. It might have been from a secondary quest, as I got a specialization class from a secondary quest. But IIRC the pistol did like 223 damage or something like that. It was the highest damage one I found.
