I thought it was clear the context of the word "minor" in this thread is referring to younger children.

17 year olds shouldn't be having sex either. They're not mature or rational enough to fully grasp the consequences of their actions. In reality, most 18 year olds aren't either but 18 is the arbitrary age we deem them adults.

Schools need to focus on academics and stop trying to fill the role of the parent. It isn't working.

What's happening NOW is that many parents aren't fulfilling their role. The school is taking on one more very important role that obviously isn't being fulfilled by quite a few parents.

Maybe schools should spend their time doing what they were designed to do....you know....teaching reading, writing, math, and science.

What the school is doing is trying to take over the role of the parent.

Someone has to do it. In one of the other threads, someone was talking about school aged children outside at 11pm on school nights, children at parties at 1am, school aged kids walking the streets in the middle of the school day. Where are the parents of those kids? And, those are the kids who often are having the children when they're 14 years old. At least the school might make an impact there.

Kids shouldn't be having sex in elementary school and the school shouldn't be enabling them. Hell, why don't school start handing out weed. After all, if kids are going to smoke weed why take the risk that the drug dealer might lace the weed.

The fact is, kids in middle school are having sex. Older kids in elementary school are having sex. Every parent says the same thing: "not my child." Parents always think it's some other kids parent and that the other parents need to do a better job. Most parents are very naive about what their kids do.

First, this is P-town, the teeny weeny town at the tip of the Cape. The town, bustling with a population of maybe 4,000 people, most of whom are either artists or gay, or both. Those 2 populations tend to be more laid back and more concerned about preventing the spread of STDs to protect their children's health than worrying about kids just saying no.

The town's 2 schools have maybe 250 kids divided by grades K-6 and 7-12. The school nurse will only hand over the condoms after a discussion about abstinence. Everyone down there knows everyone else, especially among the non-summer folks who are the only ones with kids in the schools.


Now that the idiot governor is involved the school superintendent is backpedaling a bit, only going to make condoms available to grades 5-12.


You want to stir up a stink in P-town try limiting who can or can't set up a washing machine at home.

It's the same reason that alcohol and cigarettes are sold at every convenience store, but you have to wait in a parking lot for a weird guy who's a friend of a friend to get an ounce of weed. Cigarettes give you cancer and alcohol rots your liver. These are acceptable drugs. Weed makes you happy and hungry. Ban it.
