Earlier you posted that you were sure it was ISIS.

Why put words in my mouth? I never once said I was sure it was ISIS. I said I didn't want to jump to any conclusions, but based on the fact the weapon was an automatic, it sounds like it could be ISIS. Damn near every single attack that has happened here and around the world has been ISIS, and I know they wanted to and were planing to attack Vegas. It was only a matter of time. With today's massacre, ISIS was in fact trying to lay claim to responsibility.

no more concerts for me. nothing where a large group of people is gathered in an open space. it is not worth it.

"no more concerts for me. nothing where a large group of people is gathered in an open space. it is not worth it."
Yea, a co-worker echoed that same thought today. in this particular situation the nearby hotel provided this asshole with the perfect spot to inflict the most possible carnage. I would still go to an event where this isn't the case+proper security screening prevents anyone from bringing in a gun or bomb.

This isn't the attitude anyone should have after an attack like this. Whether it be a lone gunman or an international terrorist organization. This is exactly how they want YOU to feel. At this point they win. When shit goes down in Israel, they bounce right back with a giant middle finger and say, "nice try." Would you become a hermit if you lived in Israel?

Even if he knew exactly where the shooter was, that is an impossible shot with a handgun. Even if the guy was at ground level 500 yards is way beyond what anyone can accurately shoot a handgun under stress but a position that elevated? No chance in hell, not a single one. The only thing possible from that is killing more innocent people when your bullet hits 20 floors below where you aimed.
Who said a handgun? or was that volunteered by others as a response to carrying a gun? Even a good handgun with a scope will hit at a pretty good distance. The shooter was about 300 yards away, a handheld TC Contender or Encore will hit that far.

If I'm not mistaken automatic weapons are already outlawed aren't they? The weapons used in this case were purchased legally but modified to auto fire. This goes to show that if someone is really determined to kill a lot of people they will find a way, even with laws in place to slow them down.

I think it's called a class A license that can allow you to own automatics. But be prepared to go through several whoops and have the ATF and/or FBI craw up your ass. My sister's boy friend said with a class A license the FBI can come look at your shit whenever they want. Don't know how true it is.

If I can remember right. Somewhere outside of Vegas is a range where you can in fact fire automatics.

Apparently, this guy most likely converted the semi autos into full auto. He sounds like he was very well educated and had a head on his shoulders. He plotted this very well and even placed a camera outside the door.

WASHINGTON — In the hours after a Las Vegas gunman mowed down more than 50 people Sunday night, Washington sent an implicit, but clear, message: Do not expect the capital to attempt to stop the next mass shooting.

I for one will not give up my freedom for a false sense of security, and I am glad I won't be asked to.
I bet Hillary uses this as a 'reason to abolish all guns' like that will prevent criminals from having them.

Are you seriously thinking of people bringing handguns with scopes to concerts? Is this the utopia you are imagining?

i've had a few older people tell me it's not worth having kids anymore, because it is so much worse that it was 40 or 50 years ago.
Idiocracy in the making. Religious fundies just keep pumping 'em out, gonna make for a great future society.

the "small world" effect can be terrifying.
We had neighbors, good friends who were likely to be at the concert. They stayed home to watch the Seahawks game, but his sister was there. She was uninjured.
Another lady my wife worked with years ago was killed
She died in her husband's arms.

everyone on my facebook is saying it is a mental health problem, not a gun problem.

i don't know about that. even if mental health started the thing, being able to load up on a bunch of automatic weapons and a ton of ammo finished it.
Lol, it's possible it's both. But hey, let's destroy healthcare for millions, and continue with the status quo of shame, ostracizing, and ignoring mental health issues.

America counts these event under the acceptable losses cetagory.

Yup, because who doesnt? It's the first item I review when viewing the seating chart at a concert venue. Which gun fits the venues logistical requirements.

I hate being in a large crowd to begin with, can't imagine just how terrifying it would be to actually be in one AND be shot at, and not knowing where it's coming from and not being able to easily take cover. Sad situation all round.

As for who is responsible, it seems both ISIS and Antifa are claiming responsibility. One of them, maybe both, are probably lying.

Yeah... unless you carrying a bolt action hunting rifle with a high power scope as your "concealed" carry weapon, you're not going to be able to shoot back.

Although, this was a country music concert... you never know what my fellow rednecks might have on them

If they stopped reporting these there would be a lot fewer of them, these people do it for the 15 minutes of fame.
If everyone in the crowd had a gun, there would be a lot fewer dead, I am sure. Someone would have fired back. People without guns are too vulnerable.
An armed man is a citizen, and unarmed man is a subject.
There is a county in Georgia where gun ownership is mandated and the crime rate there is very low indeed.
KENNESAW, Ga - Several Kennesaw officials attribute a drop in crime in the city over the past two decades to a law that requires residents to have a gun in the house.
In 1982, the Kennesaw City Council unanimously passed a law requiring heads of households to own at least one firearm with ammunition.
The ordinance states the gun law is needed to "protect the safety, security and general welfare of the city and its inhabitants."
Then-councilman J.O. Stephenson said after the ordinance was passed, everyone "went crazy."
"People all over the country said there would be shootings in the street and violence in homes," he said. "Of course, that wasn't the case."
In fact, according to Stephenson, it caused the crime rate in the city to plunge.
Kennesaw Historical Society president Robert Jones said following the law's passage, the crime rate dropped 89 percent in the city, compared to the modest 10 percent drop statewide.
"It did drop after it was passed," he said. "After it initially dropped, it has stayed at the same low level for the past 16 years."
Thoughts like this is what gives the rest of us gun owners a bad name. Quit being part of the problem and shut up with this crap.

There is a lot of evidence that points to his first line being correct although things went to shit quickly thereafter.

I hate this so much... I hate it. I hate it because of all the lives we lost, and the families ruined forever.

But I also hate it because it sparks debates that divide the country even further with the focus on firearms. Debates that ALWAYS are the center of attention, when we really need to be focusing on how to predict and help people that are on the verge of snapping like this. We know so little about the brain, and there's no easy answer to mental health, and that's exactly why people don't want to talk about it... because they don't have an answer. Oh well, I guess we'll keep bickering about gun violence (even though there's already laws against the type of weapons he had) and ignore what may have gone wrong in his head to decide to do this.

Connor is chasing a ghost. The turrurists won their war when we started losing our rights and privacy due to attacks. It's escalated quickly after 9/11, and not many politicians care about changing it.

Just found out one of my girlfriends nearly escaped death.

Didnt know it at the time but she flew to Vegas on Friday to be with friends she hadnt seen in some time. They were allegedly out on the strip having food or something. Some of them were talking about going to see the concert but she said she wasnt feeling well after dinner. She decided to go back to her hotel and rest. Her friends talked about it and agreed to go back with her instead of seeing the concert. A few were a little bummed out at having already spent money on tickets.
This was at 9pm.

(learned the story after she texted some people back home and they told me)

I do not shoot guns but it looks like a decent distance from hotel room window to the killing fields. How good of a shot do you have to be to cause that many hits with a semi-auto rifle in that short a time?

http://www.businessinsider.com/las-vegas-shooting-mandalay-bay-photos-windows-smashed-2017-10

There's some photos of the windows the shooter shot out from. There's one that shows the stage in relation to the windows. I think the photographer used a long zoom lens so it compressed the perspective a bit but gives you an idea. It was about 300-400 yards away but a .223 bullet is still very lethal out to that distance. With the huge crowd he really didn't have to aim.

How does someone get an virtual arsenal of automatic weapons to the 30th floor of a major casino without anyone noticing?!?

Is the Mandalay Bay security really THAT bad? I thought that these places were completely covered with cameras.

Easy. In suitcases. The guy used 10. Once checked in you come and go as you please. No metal detectors at the doors or to the elevators. Just one or two staff at the elevators to check your keycard to the room to prevent random people wander the floor halls. Bring up one or two at a time and no one will think twice.

Isn't there less bullet drop from an elevated position? Making it easier to aim +500 yards with a 308 Or 223?

I'm just afraid now of copy cat psychos wanting to become famous...

Sheriff said it was 500 yards but even 300 yards and 32 stories up with a handgun??? Are you seriously implying that someone should try to make that shot at a hotel full of people while under automatic gunfire and thousands of people running and screaming around them? And who the hell in the crowd, other than maybe a cop, would have been carrying a long gun?
