The CNN article is here and I found it hilarious. Here is an excerpt:

I just can't believe someone would file a descrimination complaint regarding the labeling of computer hardware.

Absolutely assinine! What the hell are these now, "forbidden words"? If I were black, I would be insulted that some one would think I were so pathetically weak and sensitive that I would be distraught by the mere use of such words. Give people some credit (Al Sharpton excluded).

I think we should colour code the connectors on the IDE cable.
Make the plastic pin block at the end of the ide cable white. Make the middle one black.
Then call the master drive the white drive and so on.
You know, they'd be called that because of the colour of the connectors...

I too at one time thought "master, slave, why'd they choose those names?" but I didn't go and file suit because of it. And as has been mentioned, we're hardly the only nation who's had to deal with the horrors of slavery, and we've not had the severest forms of it (still, quite terrible), yet why does it not surprise me that it'd be in this country that this would be brought up.
Geez, people are offended by anything anymore. I find it offensive that anyone even brought this up! Ardan, and anyone who posted this prior should all be banned from the forums, as should anyone else who's ever offended me here.

How TH are shops within the county supposed to convince Manufacturers like Seagate/Maxtor/Quantum etc to stop silk screening master/slave jumper settings on their HW?

Look, man, I just saw it today OKAY? Jeez.
There are millions of posts on here, and millions that are similar or the same topics. Maybe if I deemed some news about hardware to be off-topic I would have seen it in there, but since it dealt directly with computer hardware I put it in here and didn't do a search because I have more important engagements and do not tell me it takes only a second because I use it all the time and NO I didn't have a second. I felt that it would be a great topic so I posted it and then when to a Workstation Administration class. Other people clearly didn't see that news article either so just let it go, dude.

My "slave" hard drives were just getting the paperwork in for the massive lawsuit about being labeled slaves. Guess it's a little late... Anyhow, this country is full of people that obviously have nothing better to do than whine, b!tch and moan about the least important things... This is just another case of political correctness run amok. Lord knows, we are all making references to oppressed peoples all over the globe when we call our hard drives master or slave...
