Maybe they're opting for a higher focus on a story-driven (voiced) campaign.
If thats the case they already fucked it up.

Master of Orion has been a revered name in this genre since it began, and that's despite the fact that the last quality sequel came out 20 years ago!
That ain't because of masterful storytelling and Shakespearean voice talent.
Choosing to focus on that, if that indeed is the case, is a terrible decision on any level.
Hopefully it's simply a foolish marketing decision and doesn't reflect the focus of the game, but it puts a bad taste in my mouth either way.
They should have got George Takei to do the tech readings for this.
