As I have mentioned recently, I haven't been on the market looking around for PC parts for over a year, and in those days (think nVidia 7800 vs ATI 1800 kind of days) I distinctly remember when researching Crossfire that one had to purchase a master card and a slave card. Aside from thinking perverse and kinky thoughts, I found this to be quite annoying having to check to see which type of card it was [master or slave].
Now however it seems ATI cards are both master and slave in one. For example the HD3870 listed on Scan, under its Technical Specifications list, shows that Master and Slave are both ticked [link here].
What happened whilst I was gone in the way of technical developments which made this possible? Thanks
