2nd season of Masterchef (US) is underway, and the next season of Hell's Kitchen is scheduled to start on July 18th.

I'm not even sure why I like these shows so much. I'm not a foody, I never cook, and I usually hate reality TV shows. But for some reason, I find these shows to be so enjoyable. I like Gordon Ramsay's lofty standards as well. His blunt, straight forward, and intense ways also make for a great TV personality.

So, anybody watching Masterchef or looking forward to the new season of Hell's Kitchen?

ive seen every episode of both and will watch hells kitchen too.

i like masterchef a lot because it's about the food more than stupid drama and stuff of hells kitchen, and these people aren't even in the culinary world professionally.

in general i enjoy cooking competition shows though.

I love them both. The folks on masterchef are actually VERY talented. At least a good number of them are, more so than your average home cook.

Nah...I can't stand the guy from Hell's Kitchen. (Gordon Ramsey?)

The couple of times I've seen the show, I kept hoping one of the contestants would hit him in the face with a hot frying pan.

He's an obnoxious asshole...

Same. I used to just watch Kitchen Nightmares once in a while, and one night my girlfriend and I were trying to find a show to watch. I remembered Kitchen Nightmares being pretty good, so I downloaded a few seasons, and then once we finished those, I suggest we give Hell's Kitchen a try. Within a month or so we'd made it through 5 or 6 seasons, and ever since we've kept up with Kitchen Nightmares, Masterchef, and Hell's Kitchen.

I was so happy when that smug little shit Max was let go from Masterchef. All he did was talk about how rich his family was, and how many fancy restaurants he's eaten at. He did well for a couple episodes, but I was happy when he bombed.

i actually like the US version of Kitchen Nightmares better. the UK ones i've seen are pretty slow and boring. the best part about the US version is seeing people so in denial which causes LOL moments. it is like the people in the US version have no CLUE how to work a restaurant, but the UK people actually know what they are doing and listen to ramsey.

True, but the UK version the people actually accepted his advice, and the businesses actually lasted...

The US people seem to just sell after they get a free makeover, or just bail anyway...or stop doing what he recommended.

I've seen some of The F Word, and all of The UK Kitchen Nightmares. I'll have to check out the UK Hell's Kitchen. Not sure why I haven't yet -- I'm sure it's just as good, if not better, as the UK shows seem to better than their US counterparts.

I watch Hell's Kitchen....have since the first season. I must admit though, it is getting quite repetitive. Makes for OK summer TV as all other shows are off air until the fall.

You missed an episode where Ramsey said of one of the masterchef's entries - "This tastes like a bad skin graft off my buttox!"

it's just soooo fake and scripted that it ruins the entire premise for me.

you guys should really watch top chef. there's a bit more gay to it- they're not like fox, trying to convince you that you're not lame for watching singing, dancing, and cooking competitions.

but the show is really a lot better. they play up drama and the product placement is terrible, but the actual contestants and competition are far superior.

also i think i might watch a show that made contests sing, dance, and cook. at the same time.

I watch them all , my favorite is Chopped.
Its about the cooking.
I both love and despise Gordon.
The most amazing ingredients. The most incredible freshest vegetables. The constant body shaking , hand waving, keep it together people ! He has had his own restaurants fail, and he projects that anger on others. He makes entertaining reality television, LOL.

I watch them and shake my head . If cooking is that stressful and people get that angry and all the shouting, then I'm glad I never entered that field.

Some of the best Hell's Kitchen moments can be seen on the DVDs. I forget which season it was, but it was either season 1 or 2. The dinner service was going awful, and everything was taking forever.

These 2 ladies, thinking they're something, try to walk up to Ramsay as he's in the kitchen and ask where their food is. They say one or two words, and Ramsay answers with "Would you just shut the fuck up for two seconds?" Classic Ramsay.

Both my wife and I are totally hooked and have seen all the HK USA and all the Master Chefs so far. When I had cable I would occasionally see the UK version of Kitchen nightmares, I like that a lot too. (even more than the abomination they did here in the USA). I gotta say that the way they cut it up and change how things actually went that it does have a negative aspect, but the show does entertain, you get to love and hate the contestants and soon you realize that Ramsey doesn't give 2 shits about who is in front of him, its ***ALL*** about the food.

A guy that used to wash dishes under me (then moved to prep and whatnot) at a restaurant here in Vancouver just won Top Chef Canada. Never would have imagined he would be that succesful when he was a little runt farting around in the kitchen back in the day. Good for him.

Anyway, I love Hells Kitchen. Awesome show, though I prefer the UK version.
