Hi,

I recently setup new rig with P4T533-C and 2 256MB sticks of Samsung PC-1066 (total 512MB); while playing Aliens vs. Predator 2, I noticed a heavy use of pagefile (around 600MB in some levels) as well as physical RAM. Wonder if I should get 2 more sticks of the identical RDRAM for a total of 1GB ?

My main concern is that if I need to upgrade later in the future, I may not be able to get the identical chips, while now I could get the memory from the same batch? How much is P4T533-C/RDRAM setup sensitive to different type of memory sticks?

thx
dave

Don't the pairs just have to be the same? I think you can buy another 2 in the future, as long as they match each other, not what you already have. Besides, you don't need a GB of RAM for that game, check something else...

I have hard time believing that your game would use 512MB or RAM.
Are you doing anything else while playing the game? Sounds like
something heavy or the whole bunch of smaller programs are running
in background.

Get two sticks of 128 megs (which will be cheaper) + 512 = 768 megs which is plenty, and if you useing win XP I suggest you set it to no pageing in vertrul memory and see the speed jump,it doen't haft to acces the HD once loaded with that much memory playing games.even 512 works great.BTW make sure you follow the asus instruction on memory install.

Well I re-checked the memory usage under Aliens vs. Predator 2 and under CFS3. When alt-tab to windows (Win2k), the task manager showed up to 490MB of used physical memory (in both games; some 20-30MB free RAM left), and swap bloated up to some 600MB in AvP2 and 750MB in CFS3 (these stats after some time of intense gaming).... when I quit the programs, it can take time to release all the data sometimes, maybe up to 20-30 seconds. I use maximum detail and highest resolution (1600*1200*32) in both titles (and in all games in general). Could these be all the textures loaded in?

Still think I couldn't use another half gig of RAM? I mean; the games are going to be only better and more demanding on RAM (like DoomIII).

thx

Well it's like the Simcity 4 game, I hear that it runs better with 1 gig of ram. I think some games will need it and some won't, like Evercrack does better with more ram too, etc.
