Math Major

Hey Guys. I'm thinking of going to a applied and computational mathematics major with a Comp sci minor. What type of jobs should I expect to get? Do you think I can do some type of programming with this degree? I'm at a crossroad right now, so any input would be appreciated. Thanks!

Unless you want to be a teacher, make CompSci your major with a Math minor.
I doubled in both Math and CS and CS is what got me my job. Math makes you look smart, but having some CS experience is what will get you a job.

Math is a good major to have for almost any technical field in grad school. I'm in grad school now and my math major prepared me very well.

I know someone who went all the way to ph.D Applied Math, and minored in Bio, Comp sci. in undergrad, while taking grad bio classes. He has been getting awesome offers from places like NIST, Brookhaven, and private companies (~$110k). If you can stick with it, you will be able to get many nice jobs.

A B.S. in math may not take you very far. If you have ph.D in math/physics, and minor in something else, you can get places easily.

I have a math degree and I work claims at an insurance company.....


If you major in math, either promise yourself that you will go to grad school for a more specialized degree, or double major in math and something else.


don't be the guy who majors in math just because "I enjoyed math in high school...."

Jobs will be hard to find unless you have internship or experience.

you can probably get a job doing some sort of crazy research if you play your cards right.
