Math Project Computer Survey

Hey guys,
My name is Andrew, and I'm a junior in high school. I'm involved in a program called International Baccalaureate at my school, and over December break, we're required to complete a math project for the program. For this math project, I've decided to study if the price of a computer upgrade is generally directly linked to its performance (for example, does a $200 processor perform twice as good as a $100 processor?). I've used benchmark results from various sites like Anandtech and Tom's Hardware; however, I'd like to employ a bit of statistics in the project by asking computers users like yourself your opinion on this subject. I've compiled a short 11 question survey on the internet (don't worry, this site won't cause pop-ups or install anything on your computer). If you wouldn't mind and have the time, I would greatly appreciate your input on this survey. Again, as this will be used in my math project, please try to be as accurate as possible. lol haha thanks esun - i about died when i found out we had to do a math project over Christmas break (in addition to the bio project and all the other homework), but they keep saying IB will pay off in the long run when we're applying to college... i guess we'll see about that

at least it's a fun project for me though - it was awesome convincing mom and dad to buy me a new opty 146 so i could test the differences between it and my brother's athlon 2500xp. ill have to start playing with the exponential functions between the two soon enough

It depends on how much whatever college you're applying to values IB. Also depends on how well you score. It can give you a lot of free units, which is almost worthless. It may place you out of one or two classes, which is barely useful and can usually be accomplished with AP. Anyway, I don't want to discourage you, so I'll stop there. I just did way too much AP and IB in high school and now hate both.

and thanks esun for the advice - I've kind of heard the same thing about IB too - that it's an AWFUL lot of work that doesn't really get you much further than plain old AP would... but unfortunately, it seems all of my friends are in IB, and if I were to drop it, I'd be away from all of them since IB kids pretty much stick together almost the entire day. Plus, they say IB gets you well prepared for the college workload. We'll see - thanks again though for your advice and input on the survey.

thanks bamacre! some of you have provided some great responses, and it'll be interesting to see when the data is compared how many times buyers of graphic card upgrades are more pleased with their upgrade (as far as money/performance) than processor upgrades.

I did IB but never graduated with it since I moved my Junior year to a different state! Oh well...

I did IB and really liked it. You get to learn more than in regular programs, it's usually smaller classes and more fun, and if you think you're working hard now, wait until university (well actually 2nd year of university, as your IB program should teach you most things other people study in 1st year).
