3 guys walk into a hotel. They ask the attendant how much for a room, he replies saying $30. The 3 customers pay $10 each for the room, and head up to their lodgings. The manager walks in and reminds the desk attendant its $25 for the room, not $30, and is told to give the $5 back. The attendant, slips $2 into his own pocket and hands $1 to each of the 3 customers.

Now...

$30 was original price
$25 actual price
$2 to attendant
$1 x 3 customers.
all that equals $30 (25+2+1+1+1=30)

After $1 was given back, the people now have paid $9 each.

9x3=27 + 2 to attendant = 29

Where did the extra dollar go?

This doesn't belong in HT.

But to answer, if each customer paid $9 and the attendant kept $2, then

$9x3 + $1x3 (one dollar saved from each customer) = $30.

Or

$30 - $25 = $5, and $5 - $1x3 - $2 = $0.

There is no missing dollar you fool!

Comon now, do you think guys that design integrated circuits, perform complex mathematical analysis in different domains, do high speed pcb designs, design combinatorial and sequential digital systems, and program in C/C++/ASM/VHDL/VERILOG can't answer this question?

Good god. Again. Its so simple, its stupid. Its using semantics to present a false bit of logic, which makes everyone go 'ohhh'. Unless they are mathmos/compscis/natscis etc. Then they bitch about it being so stupid..

the problem is you are double dipping on the 2 dollar tip

the 3x9 = 27 includes the room AND the tip (25+2)

so, 27 for room and top, then 3 dollars saved = 30 bucks total.

A hydrogen atom walks into a bar and says "I've lost an electron!" Another says, "Are you sure?" And he responds "Yes, I'm positive!"

That was just bad....

You know they just released a pill that can help you with that "problem"

BTW, That "riddle" is terrible. Anyone who thinks logically should'nt have any difficulty with it. When i was done i thought: "why did that idiot add the tip??". That was more of a riddle to me than the missing dollar.

Lol, since this thread seems to be turning into a joke thread, how about this one...

One day, all of the world's famous physicists decided to get together for a tea luncheon. Fortunately, the doorman was a grad student, and able to observe some of the guests...

Everyone gravitated toward Newton, but he just kept moving around at a constant velocity and showed no reaction.
Einstein thought it was a relatively good time.
Coulomb got a real charge out of the whole thing.
Cavendish wasn't invited, but he had the balls to show up anyway.
Cauchy, being the only mathematician there, still managed to integrate well with everyone.
Thompson enjoyed the plum pudding.
Pauli came late, but was mostly excluded from things, so he split.
Pascal was under too much pressure to enjoy himself.
Ohm spent most of the time resisting Ampere's opinions on current events.
Hamilton went to the buffet tables exactly once.
Volt thought the social had a lot of potential.
Hilbert was pretty spaced out for most of it.
Heisenberg may or may not have been there.
The Curies were there and just glowed the whole time.
van der Waals forced himeself to mingle.
Wien radiated a colourful personality.
Millikan dropped his Italian oil dressing.
de Broglie mostly just stood in the corner and waved.
Hollerith liked the hole idea.
Stefan and Boltzman got into some hot debates.
Everyone was attracted to Tesla's magnetic personality.
Compton was a little scatter-brained at times.
Bohr ate too much and got atomic ache.
Watt turned out to be a powerful speaker.
Hertz went back to the buffet table several times a minute.
Faraday had quite a capacity for food.
Oppenheimer got bombed.
