No, it's step 1 to not end up like the previous owner. Remember that even if you're mortgage = your current rent the house will be more expensive. You're on the hook now to pay for all repairs and upkeep.

Get roommates. I have an awesome place in Newton with 3 roommates , 1 of them is my gf. Super lucky since everything was brand new renovated when we first moved in. Squeeky clean.

$1750 total and I pay... *drum roll*

$395 for my room. And it's fucking disgustingly huge:

They key is to find a place first yourself then rent out other rooms with strangers against the market. This way they pay more than you but they can't argue since they chose it above other competition.

Do that, my friend.

GF pays $370 for the smaller room upstairs. The remaining two pay $600 and $430~ change to total $1750.

For god's sake stay RENT unless you two are engaged. Do. NOT. buy a house together. That's just nightmare hell waiting to happen. What if things don't work out? Imagine yourself trying to untangle this joint-ownership bullshit. UGH. I'd feel trapped and claustrophobic.

Rent at $1050 is VERY cheap at $525 per person. WTF do you want more? It'll be hella more expensive when you buy a house + mad upkeep or a condo + say hello to condo fee!

Also, 1050 is pretty cheap (from my experience). Is the only option really buying a house? Won't that end up being more? Are there no cheaper apartments? It may be a shithole, but you have to live in a place you can afford.
