Matlab issue

I am creating a script in an m-file with matlab. To test certain sections I will highlight it and evaluate it. For a while, it will execute the script, but after awhile it will just paste the script into the main command window. This isn't caused by something I am changing but will simply start not working for what seems to be no reason. If I restart Matlab it will work again for awhile.

What can I do to fix this?

I'm not really clear on what you're doing. Which version are you using? Are you using breakpoints and/or step in/out functionality of the debugger?

Just to make it clear, you are highlighting the code and pressing F9, or right clicking and pressing evaluate selection. If you are, it should paste the selected code into the command window and run. If you do this and nothing happens, then you should look into what cyclowizard is talking about. Usually when I am testing parts of code, or just want some segmentation, i will use cells.

Make sure you haven't forgotten to evaluate/include an "end" statement to close a for/if/switch/etc. - there should be a "continue entering statement" verbage below the command window if you have, but it would result in the evaluated code being copied to the command window and not being evaluated.

If you're using a newer version you can use smart indent to catch such things quickly (highlight code then "ctr+i"), and I'll echo the value of using cells for segmentation while testing.
