I believe the built in AUX port is going bad. What are my options on fixing it? It sits in the center. If you look at the video below earlier, when the guy pans by the cup holders, directly in front is where the AUX port is.

Also, behind the glovebox is some type of air filter. Can you guys tell me which one that is? I don't have my owner's manual so I'm not even sure.

The air filter is your in-cab filter. Its for your AC system.

If the AUX port is to the left of the headunit in the black plastic piece then you can pop that piece out, and resolder the connector and it will probably fix it.

The AUX port is at the wayyyyyy bottom of the center. It's under the shifter. It's not anywhere near the actual headunit.

Thanks. I opened it up and took a look at it, and it is dirty. Any recommendations for a new one?

So do you know if there's anything I can do about the AUX port? I'm assuming yours is in front of your cup holders and underneath the center unit. Is there absolutely anyway I can fix that at all?

Is it in a piece that you can pop out? Most of these things can be removed along with the 1 sq inch piece of plastic around it. If you can get it out then it would be pretty easy to fix.

It honestly doesn't look like a piece I can pop out. I'll have to take a video of it and show you where I'm talking about.

So it looks like I need to buy a new AUX port. I tried to fix it, but it just doesn't work now. I barely did anything with it, and it just doesn't work properly now at all.

Anyone know where to get the part for cheap?

The jack is just going to be a normal 1/8" stereo jack. I would probably just pop the plastic trim piece out and put a generic one from Radioshack in it. I could understand others not being comfortable soldering in a generic one, though. Just three wires if you wanna give it a go. Could also just use butt connectors to splice it into the stock harness. The harder part is probably getting it into the panel, though.

It looks like the Toyota part is 8619002020. Like 80 bucks online; about 105 at list (what your local dealer would probably charge).

...kinda steep. I'd try fixing the broken one first. Not like you can make it worse. Looks like it's below the shifter...not quite as easy to access if it was in the radio bezel. Maybe go through where the shifter is...the outer trim should pop up pretty easy, then the part around the shifter with the gear indicator probably also just unclips. Then maybe you can get a hand down in there to release the tabs holding the little square piece with the aux jack. If nothing else, you could always just get rid of the actual metal jack and run a cable with a female stereo end out of that hole.

Wait, correction- looks like the aux port is in a little tray below the shifter that comes out as its own little piece. Is it like this picture?

If so, just get a plastic trim tool (...or a flat screwdriver...but plastic tools are cheap and harder to damage things with) and pry up at that seam. You probably have to pop the top part with the cig lighter out first.

I did pop it out and get it out. I just couldn't fix it.

What else should I do? I'm planning on checking a junkyard tomorrow to see if they have the part. I saw that it was an expensive part to order online so I'm definitely not going that route.

Maybe post a pic so I can see exactly what it looks like. I'd guess it's overly-complicated...probably a little PCB with the connector stuck straight on it? If it's just a normal stereo jack to a 3 pin connector, then any old audio connector would work just the same. All you gotta have is three wires- left, right, and a shared ground.

I'd grab something like that. If the current hole is the size of that threaded portion, you're golden. If it's a little smaller, drill it out. If the little metal ring on the front is not enough to hold it in steady in the plastic, grab some epoxy and glue that sucker down.

For wiring, you'll probably just have to cut the harness. I'd clip the connector (I like to leave a wee bit of wire on the side I cut off, for easier reattachment, if ever needed) and attach some extensions (solder or butt-connect) that will attach to the new bare stereo jack. Connections at the jack will typically need to be soldered. If you can't solder, either a) find a friend that will attach the three wires for you, which you can then attach with butt connectors or b) go buy a cheap electric iron, rosin core solder, and heat shrink. Can probably be done for 20 bucks.

i assume any aux input can be replaced. does not have to be matrix one. there is a lot of after market aux

If the wires are enamel coated then the but connectors probably wont work. Usually they are enamel coated if the wires are very find and a have metallic-ish looking green and red colors. Red is Right channel in most cases, if it does come to soldering something in place.
