I agree that the new Matrox cards are certainly not the strongest performers in the market but I still love my G400 MAX!

I think Matrox are going for the business market - they got left behind in the gaming market after the G400.

Well

They were best when they had the Matrox Millenium with 4MB WRAM... everyone else was using Cirrus Logic/Tseng Lab/Trident bs then...

I know they are into business market now (given that is only an excuse in the first place anyway)... doesnt mean they can have SUCH BS 3d performance. I mean... 'slightly better' 2d quality is not everthing. Raedon SDR has very good 2d performance as well... and it cost 1/4 of the G550....

I don't think that Matrox is bs only cause they doesn't make hyper-giga-mega-super 3D cards for die-hard gamers. I'm happy even with my G450 3D performance, I just don't play any 3D shooters (I don't play much at all, to be fair ).

Honestly I really dont know why matrox has bothered with G550. It is basically another G450(I rather have a G400 in the first place)... if not it has worst performance. The headcast is bs obviously. I dont see a single thing they excel at now.

I wonder if anyone actually uses that 'headcast' technology? It did seem kinda' pointless when they first announced it.

Do you know their quad monitor support basically cost as much as another business computer + dual display

In some places such as financial institues they don't have space for another computer but they need lots of screens. A couple hundred $$ is nothing to them - you are mixing business and leisure.

"In some places such as financial institues they don't have space for another computer but they need lots of screens."

How can you have room for 4 monitors but not another case. Monitors take up tons of room while cases take up hardly any. Plus with 2 computers you would have twice the processing potential.

Or could you say there is always stupid dumba$$ "IT PEOPLE" who will pay $700 for an outdated quad display where they can just as easy use 2 comps + 2 duals.

Anyway I think this is irrelevent because I seriously dont see the point of a G550. Because it only has dual anyway.

Why have extra PCs when it is not needed. Like I said on the stock exhange the can use one PC to drive 16 monitors. Since all it is doing is display stock info, there is no need to have more PC's.

Why are you raging on matroxx anyways? They are going for a segment of the market that works for them. It is business and since they don't care to compete with the 3D market, they will just focus on what the company deems best.

Keep an open mind guys. $700 can be much less expensive than getting another network connection for that second PC, or paying an IT dept to figure out how to make those two PC's reliably and quickly share the same data. Some custom applications (like the stock broker software) is written specifically for the quad card. It wont work with two computers.
In business, the simplest solution is always the cheapest in the long run.

news flash, matrox isn't a gamer's card.
really, it's a wasted review--we all know matrox cards are not good at gaming benchmarks. i'm sure the reviewer knew it, but did it anyway.

fwiw i'm using one of the g200 quads now and it's a very interesting card in that it has 4 full fledged g200 cards-unlike some of the dual monitor setups where the secondary out is decidedly inferior to to the primary (even matrox has cheesed out on some it's dual monitor setups.) for it's purpose these quad cards are probably the best in their class.

'course i only paid $45 bucks for mine.

i mean, think about it, take away 3d (i.e. many corporate situations) and now who is on top? matrox still has the best 2d, though ati's products may be almost as good. it has the best multimonitor support and excellent drivers.

matrox has decided to go after a different niche and is doing very well.

granted, at some point in the future, even business apps will probably be 3d, and matrox may get left behind.

but for those of us who read much, have multiple monitors, and just don't game, the matrox cards are still a fine choice.

There will be quad-monitor graphics cards coming from both ATI and Nvidia (Elsa) soon.

You're missing the point. It can't run 270 fps in Q3A, therefore it's useless. For cripes sake, everyone needs either a Radeon8500, or GF3Ti500. How else are you going to brag about 1337 words you don't even know the meaning to, such as Quincunx and anisotropic filtering? There is no other market.

The fact that Matrox are a piss-poor solution for 3D gaming is pretty old news. What is interesting is that a lot of manufacturers are starting to challenge them in the 2D image quality department as well.
